Engine unstabilized under 3000 RPM

Mine will run rough under 3000 rpm. It really does not like being under 2000 rpm. But, the only time I stall it is when I'm under 1500 rpm.

Working bicycle races, I spend a lot of time at slow speeds, going uphill.

I would say it is "normal" from my experience as well. The instability improved noticeably once I added my exhaust.

What power mode are you using? Sport/HI power mode, low rpm, unsteady hand, bumpy road = chugging. I have developed serious throttle hand discipline over 10K miles on the Strada...mostly because I leave it in Sport mode religiously.

Couple things:

1. In late 2013 there was a ECU update that aimed at helping the low band surging. As always- check you have all updates.

2. The Motard forums state this line comes super lean from the factory. Couple this with the butterfly to meet noise and emission regs, and you have a less than optimal AF ratio. I've read positive reviews that the tuner I'm about to install, plus opening up the air intake and deleting butterfly, dramatically alters low end and overall smoothness.

I have to say that I find the fueling and throttle response on my '13 HS exemplary. Yes, it's hard to go below 2000 rpm, but mainly because you have to go so very slow to get there. Even in top gear, I find it running well, predictably and without hesitation or coughing at all from 2000 onwards - I can drop down to there and whack it open and it just pulls evenly. I could not really ask for better fueling. Now, can I feel every single pulse in the engine at 2000-3000, yes I surely can, at that part of the register. It's nothing you can ever feel from an i-4 UJM engine, unless maybe it should fail to fire on two of the four cylinders, and even then it would "feel smoother" than the 821 L-2 at 2000 rpm.

The thing I saw in the very first post was that there had been some change in how your engine performed. If anything changed for the worse, you should investigate why with your reputable shop/mechanic.

mine is a 2015 model, with 1500km and it doesn´t like to be under 3K either, it´s far from its confort zone (from 3.5K-4K to max), but it´s been the same since the begining, so i think it´s normal for this motor

i´m usually in touring mode, , maybe in city mode would be better

I agree that if you have noticed the engine character change, you should probably get it checked out. Just to get a bit more detail, when do you notice the tendency to stall below 3000rpm? When the bike is in gear or when you're stopped and the bike is in neutral? If it's the latter, then you probably have an issue. If it is the former, it might be normal, especially in 3rd or higher gears, as I find that the Hyperstrada does not have a particularly torquey engine. It does not like being below 4000rpm very much, although it will still deal with it while sounding like it will stop.

If your bike is stalling when in neutral, one thing to check may be the fuel you're getting. Although you have fuel to European standards in Istanbul, perhaps you got some low quality fuel somewhere?

Of course there may be many other mechanical or electronic reasons that your mechanic can tell you, such as sensor problems, but the ones above are probably the first couple of things you might want to consider.

The bike does not like to go below 3000RPM. 3500-4000 is the cruising sweet spot.

I forgot to mention, and I didn't see it mentioned any where else in these posts, what fuel are you using? The Hyper tends to be sensitive to ethanol and octane below 92.
