Would like other's opinions. Maybe you have heard the Arrow or Shift Tech exhaust.

1. Akrapovic
2. Shift Tech CF
3. Arrow Race-Tech CF

I am going to eliminate the Cat since my state has no emmisions for bikes. Has anyone heard the last 2 on an 821?

My opinion as follows as applied to the Hyper 821's exhaust from the listed manufacturers.

1 - Expensive for an exhaust that doesn't do much for the look imo. Not sure on power gains here.
2 - Best looking carbon fiber Ive seen; with that said it was too loud for my tastes (I actually had one on my bike).
3 - Unsure, I am unfamiliar.

How much louder than the oem exhaust would you say for the shift tech?

everyone has their taste but I have to ask - how loud do you want to be? why?

I already have to wear earplugs even for around town and on one camping trip a child was overwhelmed by the noise (not in a good way). It is a loud bike - one of my winter projects will be to modify a stock exhaust for a milder sound.

Also why remove the cat -you gain little from that - if anything (and with the loss of back pressure you may lose performance). Pollution laws or not - it is there for a reason - and not cuz the gummint won't let me be.

Not looking for loud. Looking for a deeper sound. The cat robs the bike of linear power. Removing it makes it smoother

Where did you hear that? Got a dyno chart from an independent source? Sounds like complete nonsense to me.

Ducati spent quite a bit of effort making sure that the stock system works well and meets EPA requirements. Even the full, no cat, race-only Termi only gives another 5% HP and it was specifically designed for this bike by a top-level outfit. The cheaper aftermarket cans (MIVV for example) just sound tinny and loud. And this sort of mod might void any warranty on the FI system.

Gotta say, so far, an aftermarket pipe is really only for looks and sound (personal opinion). Haven't seen a dyno yet that rates the price of a slip on or full setup. If it sounded like a sowing machine, there's a reason. But most of us agree the OEM growl is pretty bad-***. The only thing I could go searching for is more power, and more than a couple ponies.

This is a good thing. It means Ducati wrung all they could out of this little gem of a motor and it should soothe some of those hate threads on hear about "what am I paying for?"

gatdammit - I agree it sounds good. But I want a bit more grunt sound.

zippy - the full ti system from akra does up the hp on it plus we know akra sounds awesome.

Yep, another 5 or 6 HP for a mere $3k...not my idea of sufficient "bang for the buck." If I wanted more power I'd have bought a bike that came with it. I've had a few.

I agree 5hp more for $1900 is not cost effective but the sound it acquires also to me makes it justifiable. Honestly had they done the same as the first motard ie 1100 engine range or a 1199 sf i would have bought that instead.

The Hyper had the best sounding stock exhaust on any bike I have ever heard. With that said...

I could not own a Ducati and stick to a stock exhaust; it seemed like blasphemy. With that said...

Never would I pay over a couple hundred dollars for a motorcycle exhaust.

For me, riding the hyper any distance with the shift tech exhaust required ear plugs as it was actually painful without ear plus for me. I may have old man ears but that was my experience. I currently have a SC Project high mount w/o baffle and love it. Deeper, mean on the throttle, and quiets a bit on cruising.

Shift tech has a baffle you can purchase separately if you want to go with them.

Thanks dryer do you have a video of the sc exhaust on your bike so i can hear it?

Dryer,

I'm sure you've answered this before, but did you get the SC power module? Just wondering how necessary it is. Starts approaching $1000 US with all the pieces.

Guys, also looking for a slip on for my HS. Do you guys also upgrade the air filter to an aftermarket one after putting in a slip-on exhaust?

I went out for a ride with the Johannesburg Desmo Owners Club yesterday, there were about 50 Ducs in the group, it sounded like an African thunder storm rolling down the roads:cool:

One guy had a Hyper with the proper Termi slip on from Ducati, the sound was unbelievable, but at U$2300-00 over here they can keep it (U$3500-00 for the complete system)

So I did some window shopping earlier today, it is not possible to get any slip on in SA to fit the Hyper for under U$1500-00, bringing a part in is also dangerous here, as lots of boxes are stolen in the post (I have been waiting 4 months for my lever kit)

So I guess I am sticking to stock:(

Sorry for the delay guys.

gatdammit - I did not get the module. Im operating under the somewhat substantiated assumption that I have had for years, no need to remap with just a slipon and no change to the airbox. Runs great as is, smoother, without much popping either. Down the line I will likely do a MWR and either Rapidbike or Tuneboy. SC Project also says no need for the module with just the exhaust.

b9009b - I dont have a video of mine and I fear my phone wouldn't translate the sound well. There are quite a few online that I used when looking.

Can't go wrong with Arrow X-kone. Sounds great without baffle, no remap required, can find these between $550-$600.

I agree that in most instances the stock exhaust sounds nice and would be plenty loud enough. However here in Vietnam , sorry as it sounds, the louder you are the better. Traffic here is a nightmare and the louder the bike the safer it is for you.
When you have hundreds of scooter riders all buzzing around like flies they suddenly take note of something around that is bigger than them.

I think the stock exhaust looks the best out of all exhaust options. It sounds great too. But without trying to sound like a hooligan I am looking for an exhaust that doesn't break the bank and cranks up the DB's a notch or two, without detracting from the factory sound too much.:)
