Hello everyone,

I have been searching and searching and I cannot find the size of the cap? I want to buy a tool on my way home. If anyone knows what size tool you are using to remove the caps, I would greatly appreciate the information.

Thank you in advance!
Rene

Ok, so I came home and measured the fork cap. Where does one buy this size? If my calculations are right it is a 36mm fork cap.

I know zip about forks...you mean socket size to remove the cap? Sears or Lowe's will have one, or call the local Snap-on guy if you want that snob factor! lol

Thanks for the reply! I'm looking for the fork cap wrench in that size.. Not a socket.

My bf is most likely going to make a tool for me since I can't find that size anywhere that I am looking......

For your info, the flats on the fork cap are just a hair under 36mm (35.91mm actual). So, a 36mm wrench or socket will work. The service manual recommends wrapping the flats in one layer of electrical tape to protect the finish.. I suspect that's why they undersized the nut slightly.

If you are trying to loosen the top cap on the fork while it's still on the bike, don't forget to loosen the upper triple clamp, otherwise you'll probably do damage to the cap.

Great tips, thanks! We actually removed them and took out some oil in each fork last night.

So we removed 10ml of oil from each fork last night. Initial thought from a ride around our neighborhood was that it felt like it has more rebound. Hope it does not have any dive under heavy breaking.
