How do you remove the exhaust muffler/silencer?

Does anyone know how to take off the exhaust silencer? I only see two attachment points... one single bolt holding on the upper part of the silencer, and then a compression ring with a nut on it where the silencer connects to the exhaust pipe/header coming from the engine. I loosened that bolt but it didn't seem to do anything and the compression ring still stayed tight no matter what I tried to do to it. Is there something else holding it on, or some trick to getting that compression ring to give free?

Thanks in advance! :)

yes, only two attachment points just as you described

1. loosen the bolt where the muffler hangs on the rearset. don't take it off yet, allow the muffler to hang loose while you do step 2
2. loosen the nut-bolt holding the pipe clamp (or compression ring) all the way then just a gentle tap should break it free
3. take out the bolt (in step 1) from the hanger while supporting the muffler with your free hand
4. gently twist off the muffler from the pipe
5. grab a beer

Ah, thanks! The bolt holding on the pipe clamp took about a dozen hard hits with a hammer to come loose, but it finally popped out and I got the muffler off. Thanks!!
