so I guess i was one of the first ones in the US to get my hands on the hyperstrada, the bike felt pretty nice and the engine was very powerful, after riding about 50 miles I stopped by my Girldfriend's house to show her the bike and give her a ride. i turned off the bike and gave her a walkaround and 5 minutes after i tried turning it on but the engine would make a weird sound and after a couple of tries the screen started displaying and error, i scrolled thru the menu to check what the error was and it said it was the engine, i turned the ignition off and back on again and the error was gone. but now the engine stopped trying to turn over. called the ducati guy and he is on his way to pick it up. :(

at least im only half hour away, some of you guys live 3 hours away. ill keep you guys posted

110 HP, which is about what I have in the Super Tenere, but 600+ lbs, this lightweight has got to rock!

Hope you get it sorted quick, I am betting on a loose battery connection.

While i was waiting on the guys from the dealer to come and pick it up I took the seat off and check some of the connections, checked the battery and fuses and everything seemed to be allright. Since its a new model and new engine the techs are not very experienced but hopefully they will figure it out before the day ends. Thanks

Couldn't you start the bike with a new PINcode for the key? Did you leave the contact on? Battery low? What are your first impression? In 2 weeks riding the bike, I have just one remark. Some strange noise in the fork when I brake hard! To check at his first service.

The bike was making a weird noise and would not start, the service tech from the dealer tried to start it and had the same result. So he took it and they should be working on it as we speak.

The dealer just called and they reseted the ECU and solved the problem. They will be delivering it again today. Im happy with the service and hopefully i wont have any more problems.

Cool! Glad they figured it out. Where is the ECU? You did say re-seated/connected it, or did you mean, they did a reset with the computer?

They probably reset it with the computer I'm thinking if you just pulled positive off of the battery it might've done it as well

i would have pulled battery. Tends to solve 99% of auto issues and don't have radio settings to worry about with bike! Hopefully not a trend...

They told me they had to reset the ECU.. Before they picked it up I checked all the fuses and disconnected the battery for 10 minutes with no success. What i understood the service rep when he brought it back was that the gas tank has some sort of canister (to meet polution requirements) to remove the fumes and it was creating too much vacuum. So they removed the canister and plugged the line that led to the canister.he told me that it happens often on the panigales.

Hopefully is the first and the last time it happens.

That will be the carbon canister.
I'll be removing mine completely if fitted to UK bikes.
An evaporative emissions system is generally designed to route fuel vapors from the fuel tank into a carbon filter inside the canister. The canister is then routed into the engine intake where the vapors are merged with the normal fuel intake and burned in the cylinders.

***Note that it may be illegal to run the motorcycle without the evaporative emissions canister or if the vehicle's emissions control system has been tampered with or modified.

where not so bad in the UK, but california emission laws are very strict.

Luckly I live in Miami which is the closest to a third world country as it gets.

Ha you may not want to mention on here that your dealer removed the charcoal canister for you, that is heavily frowned upon and technically illegal in some places (like here in Cali).
Question had you just filled up the fuel tank shortly before it happened? Usually little gremlins due to charcoal vacuum will manifest right after you've gotten your tank good and (over)full.

I read an article on the dukes evap system and found this. Don't take it as gospel but its probably correct given how strict California is.

"To make things simpler for the tiny Ducati factory, they only make one US model and it is California compliant.

It can legally be removed in any other state, but any bike owned in California must keep it, or be fined $500."
