Hyperstrada right for my needs?

Hey guys, new to the forum.
The hypermotard/strada is at the top of the list for my next bike, probably swinging more towards the strada for the practical extras.

Id say about half my riding will be solo riding to work up and down freeways and some weekend twisties. The other half will be with my girlfriend as pillion either around town or on longer weekend/week long touring trips away.
Do any of you guys regularly ride two up for longer stretches? How do you find it? My girlfriend is quite small (45kg-100lbs?)
Obviously a bigger bike like the multistrada would be best but thats just not an option, its quite a bit more expensive plus i dont think it will as much fun.

Basically just wondering if the hyper will be a good compromise for all the things i need it for?

Thanks heaps! Adam

My gf doesn't really enjoy riding all that much, but she's been on the back for about 70 miles at a time on long sweeping curves on California 33 above Ojai. She's 5'10", 140 lbs. and had no complaints at all about comfort on the back of the Hyper.
Now my riding style on the other hand, she had plenty of "constructive criticism" about that!

Hey Adam,

Mate I reckon the bike is a great fit for your needs. I'm in Sydney too and I love this bike so much! For twisties the bike is more fun than the Multi and in the streets of Sydney the Hyper is more nimble. For a 45kg girlfriend she should be fine on the back. I have taken a few girls on the back and they usually always say it's comfy.

If you get one let me know... Wouldn't mind getting a few of us with Hypers together for some weekend rides!

Cheers mate,

Paul (Maroubra)

Welcome to the forum Adam.

I've had my Strada just a few months now , and the the 3000 kms I've clocked up so far have been two up most of the time.
My other half is also 45 kilos and around 5' 8 " , and has never complained. The longest we did on one day so far was 520 kms of some very , very twisty uphill / downhill stuff and no whining at all.

Yes the bike is a little cramped, but I would say unless you are doing some serious touring I reckon it's more than adequate.

Again the only complaints I get are riding style and a crack of helmets if my gear changes are not perfect. :D

Cool Michael, I'll be away until mid September so I'll put the call out sometime around then for a Sydney Hyper ride.

Thanks for all the responses guys pretty much exactly what i wanted to hear.

Ive got my eye on an ex-demo 2013 at dealer that was customised for a charity event. Its a bit of a strada/motard/SP mashup, has the marzocchi forks from the SP and a termignoni exhaust plus a few extra bits. Some concerns are the exhaust is high instead of low so would inhibit using the panniers on one side and also the warranty period would be close to being over.
Pretty close to biting the bullet though, the bike seems like the perfect compromise between sport bike for me and cumfy tourer for the GF.
Im in Erskineville so pretty close to both you guys, always up for a ride.

The strada is great for what you are describing, i'm not so sure about the modified one you've mentioned just because that high mount exhaust might make the passenger accomodations pretty hot!

Details.... easy enough to find a stock muffler, or a low mount aftermarket one, if it's what's needed. Not a dealbreaker in my book.

There are lots of good used stock mufflers on fleabay.

My 60 kg wifey was good on the back for a week-long ride in the Sierras, and we are really, really old.:D Keeping it in "touring" with medium throttle response helped reduce the helmet banging.

I'm pretty sure that the TC kept us up on one blind, sandy corner on that ride...she said she dragged a toe...with her foot on the passenger peg!

Adm,
If it's the green one, I saw it again yesterday......I had a service. At the price they have on it I'd buy it ☺

Yeh mate it is the green one, pretty good price too considering the extras.
I was actually invited to an event there last night and got to have a really good look and speak to the DP, Im pretty much sold on it. I just have a few small things to figure out still.
The exhaust is not a deal breaker at all, its basically a brand new $2000 pipe, im sure someone out there would happily swap out a low version for this high version.
Fingers crossed i get some more things sorted today!

Thanks again for all the replies guys they have helped the decicion.

If you get a top box instead of using the panniers your passenger will have a backrest too!

It'll make up for the leg burns from the high mount muffler.

So i put a deposit down this morning! I think i got a really good deal considering the extras on it, cant wait to pick it up.

I've only been two up on mine (Hypermotard base model - not Hyperstrada) a handful of times, and found it miserable when pushed; the forks just aren't up for it. The girlfriend is about 120 pounds, and I'm about 175.

Riding along at a normal pace is just fine. She had plenty of room on the back and didn't complain, and she didn't get shoved into me like some other bikes (I'm looking at you, old Monster S2R) tend to do.

SP forks would probably make my complaints a non-issue.

Luckily enough the one im getting has the fully adjustable SP forks plus a full valve upgrade so im hoping that will help keep this comfortable and planted with a passenger on.

You sure did and well done :D

Going through all the paperwork on it we realised just how much extra parts and work had been put on the bike.
Full exhaust with a re-map, the shocks had not only been swapped out for the SP versions but have also been revalved plus it has the ducati carbon covers all over it. I couldn't believe it. It was a steal at what i got it for plus they threw in new panniers and a tall screen (the originals were 'misplaced' in all the upgrades)

Cant wait to get out and ride it and meet some owners in Sydney
