Hyperstrada vs Used KTM 990 SMT

Hey guys!

I've been lurking on this forum and seeing what's up with the Hyperstrada and how people are enjoying it, and it seems like an awesome bike (and a really friendly forum!)

I thought I had made up my mind about buying the Hyperstrada, but then I found a really nice KTM 990-SMT for $13,500 with only 20 miles on it next to where I live. I've tried both the Hyperstrada and the SP was planning on going to the dealer this Friday to pull the trigger and buy the Hyperstrada.

I feel like I'm getting the pre-buyers-remorse of some sort :-/! I've never really had a new-new to me bike before. I'm split between both the rides! I know it's a slightly vague question, but if anyone can help give me a good pro/con for either it would be really appreciated!

The price isn't that much of a concern, I've been saving up for a while to buy a baby this expensive :) Previous ride was a 09 F800GS.

I typically ride 200 miles a week, including one 50 mile commute both ways once a week and the usually city commuting + canyon carving.

Any suggestions or things to think about would be awesome! Thanks so much!

Canyon carving, I would vote for the Hyper. Never been on the 990, but the 1190 has lots better everything, including wind protection. 42 mpg vs 52 mpg on the Hyper. Hyper is lighter by about 70 lbs.

More room to move around on the 1190. My Hyper is for sale after bonding with the 1190!

As you're riding a lot I'd take the inspection intervals into account. And right now you won't find anything near the current gen Ducatis'

Does the KTM have traction control? I use the ride settings on the HS - urban when on dirt roads, touring most of the time, sport when I have a nice twisty road ahead. Check out ADV rider debate on similar question KTM 990 SMT vs Ducati Multistrada 1200 - ADVrider

Bike magazine UK

If you can find it (I have the magazine and can scan and send it to you), Bike magazine in the UK did a comparo of the Hyperstrada, the SMT and the Tiger Sport (not avail in the US) and the Hyperstrada came out bottom.:(
The SMT does not have all of the techno wizardry of the Ducati (its not ride by wire, nor does it have a slipper clutch or riding modes etc etc) but as a bare bones bike for touring and canyon carving they really rate the SMT. If it wasn't orange / black I'd have traded my Hyperstrada for the SMT months ago due to the issues I have with it.

If you want the scanned version, send me a PM with your personal e-mail (the scanned doc size is too big for the forum and PM)

Cheers
