The Hyperstrada/motard is a completely different bike. More like a short term tourer and more nimble for hooligan riding.
Yep! That's it right there. It's a fun and nimble bike that you can toss around like a BMX [ok, not quite, but you guys know what I mean], lean far into a hairy corner, and still put in some real miles.
My buddies and I did a ~450 KM loop on Saturday, mostly twisty roads, average 90 KM/h [so we were doing 100 - 105 mostly], and while I was glad to get home, I wasn't uncomfortable. Sure, my buddy on his Kawi Vulcan could ride to the moon, but I guarantee he didn't enjoy his ride any more than me. And the gas milage is great. It's like having your cake and eating it to have a hooligan bike that you can ride for 180 KM before even breaking a sweat about the next gas station.
[BTW: for anyone in the Ottawa area, the loop is: Gatineau to Wakefield, then take the 105 up to Maniwaki, then 117 east to Mont Laurier, then south on the 309 to the highway 50, and back into Gatinuea. It's a great ride! The Le Cage Aux Sports in Mont Laurier makes a wicked burger too ]
