i never had any major electrical issues with this bike since i bought it brand new 8 months ago until last month and don't if it is really something to be concerned about

i have the habit of shutting down the motor by turning the key instead of the 'kill switch', so that kill switch stays 'on' all the time. starting last month, there are times when i turn the key to start the bike, the motor suddenly comes to life, like starting a car, even without me pressing the ignition button  this happened a handful of times, although not consistently

dealer theory is that the ignition button must be getting stuck in the 'on' position. granting but then, with the latest dealer ecu update a few months ago, the electronic protocol is such that when the key is turned on, the bike first boots up indicated by the lights of the dash momentarily flash in sequence from the outermost going in. then goes off except for the neutral, abs and oil lights. so pressing the button before the lights have gone through the sequence should not start the motor

it happens very seldom so it is difficult replicate it at the dealer. anybody experience the same thing?

That's freaky, and a legitimate safety concern.

I'm assuming it only happens if the bike is in neutral, as well? Do you always keep yours in neutral after shutdown? I usually do for warm-up the next day and I often push it out of the garage first.

yes, the bike is always in neutral before starting. won't start in gear unless i squeeze the clutch. it just feels weird and catches me off guard when the motor suddenly comes to life when you don't expect it yet. like it's possessed or something

Whoa! That needs to be checked out at a dealer. I've hardly ever used the kill switch to stop my bikes. I killed the ignition pickup on my '95 Triumph by doing that and leaving the key on for a half hour! Sounds like you have a short in the switch/solenoid system. Definitely a safety issue.

Ghost in the machine?

i've since sprayed wd40 in the 'kill switch' area... we'll see
