low down on gearing

I think the only way to go up on the rear sprocket is to go to a 520 conversion. The only larger rear I've seen is a 46 tooth for a 520 chain with a quick change carrier.

I just finished a 3k mile tour on my 939 with a 14 tooth front. It didn't bum me out, but the stock gearing would have been nice on the highways.

The biggest issue was that the RPMs tended to sit right at the closed/open loop point (~5k) and made for uncomfortable throttle transitions.

The speedo reads out fine..the pickup is at the wheel.

The reason I did the front sprocket is that you can use the stock chain and a front sprocket is like $20. I had the shop do it when I bought the bike.

There may be a good compromise to be had with the rear sprocket, but I don't have the experience to know for sure.

It's very cheap (probably the cheapest mod you can do on a Ducati) and easy to do the 14t swap yourself. I'd recommend just going for it and then adjusting from there if it's too short for you.
