Lower version of hyperstrada?

Hi Guys,

Does anybody knows if it is posssible to order lower version of hyperstrada? I had a demo test drive and it was a bit unfortable when parking due to seat height. I got info from dealer that hyperstrada is in one size and I can only order lowered seat. Other dealer stated same regarding size but said they can modify/adjust suspension to make it 20 mm lower.

Ducati.com says in tech spec: Seat height 850mm - 830mm (33.5in - 32.7in) Does it mean I can pick one of those size or is it service job to adjust as mentioned by dealer?

I found link below saying that I should have an option to choose size as the lower one needs shorter side and central stand. In this case dealer workshop cannot make it.

"However, the Hyperstrada is also offered in "low version" with shorter suspension front and rear providing a lower seat height of 830 mm. The version includes shorter side and centre stands and considerably enhances sure-footed confidence, especially when combined with the accessory low saddle to achieve a total reduction of 40 mm for an 810 mm seat height."

Please advise as I was going to order one tommorow :)

Cheers,

Jakub

I heard there can be a low suspension one ordered. I do know there is a low touring seat for the Hyperstrada, which I did try out.

According to my Duc dealer there is not a lower suspension for the Strada. I bought the lower seat and had the dealer adjust the suspension, front and rear. Stock, only my toes could reach the ground. After the suspension was adjusted and the new low seat installed, I can touch ground with the balls of both feet.

I'm worried that lower seat will have negative impact on comfort. This was reason why I sold Gladius. Uncomfortable (hard) saddle made my back hurt after 100 km journey.

I can tell you that like almost all low seats it has a deep valley you must sit in. There was no movement fore or aft. If it works for some people great, it definitely didn't work for me. The problem I have with the stock low touring seat is the same. I need to be able to sit back a couple of inches and have some movement. I tried the Hypermotards SP seat and it's a little flatter, so I ordered one to keep me happy for the time being. It seemed like it didn't change my feet to the ground issue at all. I ride solo, so I don't need a large passenger area on the seat. I need a custom solo seat just for me.

I was pretty sure Duc made a lower version of Strada. They even talk about lower ground clearances on their site with the alternate frame. I would do a search because quite a few members discussed ordering the lowered model after initial test rides over the months.

Just for info, I spoke to the salesman at ducati Manchester about lowered versions of the hyperstrada, he recommended to me the lower seat version for my 5ft 6in height, he also said that there is a lower version of the bike available to order which comprised of a shorter rear shock, shorter side stand and lowered forks, he did not recommend this version for myself as this would also effect the overall geometry . I have yet to demo one of these on the road, but trying one for size at the dealers seemed a tad too tall for my short legs .

What did he mean by affecting geometry? I heard that they shorten fork and spring by 20 mm and that's it. Regarding lower seat the only way they can make it lower is just to reduce capacity of foam/gel or whatever they use to fill saddle. This must affect comfort of rider butt.

No, my neighbour asked for a lowered version and out dealer said yes, but when the bikes were deliverd, it was a normal version with a lowered seat!

low version

Hi
You can order a low version of the hyperstrada, I have one and it does not alter the geometry of the bike. The rear shock is shorter, as are the forks and the stands are shorter to allow for the lower height. The bike has the standard seat supplied giving seat height of 830mm, this can be lowered to 810mm with the lower seat which is an extra.

Yep, I've got the same. It's perfect for my 32inch inside leg o be on tip toes. The bike is so light and well balanced though I think I would have been fine with the standard version.

I should alo warn that I am already grinding the centre stand when giving it still on tight bends, this may be my first ,of to remove it!

Other than that and its a fantastic ride.

I talked to my dealer Bellevue Ducati about the lower version. He to said it was a different shock and forks. I'm sure a different side stand would be needed. I have a 30" inseam but decided the cost for the parts was not worth it. I didn't ask what the price, just knew it would be a lot. I removed the center stand which helped me with access to the side stand. I'm not sure I would want the bike lower anyway. I dragged the toe of my boot on one corner. I do have the lower seat and may look at a shorter spring for the rear shock some time in the future. If I lower it it won't be by much.

Thanks Folks for your feedback. I just also got confirmation from my dealer that lower version is available. Let's go shoppping then! :D

I bought my low version from Ducati Preston, which is part of the Manchester franchise, I'm 5'6. I tested the standard with lower seat but ordered the lower version, note that the geometry of the bike does not change,it's just ground clearance that is lower. It costs the same and also the sales manager said they would be ordering more lower versions because a lot of people where asking about them. the side and center stand are smaller to compensate for the lower suspension. I've just read on here too that a dealer lowered his standard strada!!!! don't know how he lowered the rear as there is no ride height adjuster for it. All i can think is that they just set the pre-load softer and lowered the front through the triple clamp. which would upset the geometry!!!
If i have any issues with the center stand scrapping then it will be removed.
I have only ridden the bike for one weekend and covered 380 miles, I think its a fantastic bike and if anyone has doubts about the standard bike being too tall, then order the low version, you wont be disappointed, it rides just the same, except you can touch the floor....:D

You must do whatever is necessary to make the bike work for you. Be aware like others on this forum I have hit the center stand on left hand turns as well as my toe of my boot. Lowering the bike further from stock would make turning aggressively a delicate operation. Be carefully and aware of what could happen. Ride safe. Oh, I have since removed my center stand. I have installed rear axle sliders which are shaped like bobbins so a rear motorcycle stand lifts the bike for chain service.

They may have cut the spring and lowered the triple clamp. Anything too aggressive and I think you're really kinda defeating the fundamental design of the Hyper line - moto inspired, high and forward seating for great balance and sharp handling.

If you're draggin your boot, you need to slide your feet back farther on balls when laying it over. The pegs or stands should drag before a boot does.

Mentalist is right. Mines a low with an 830mm seat height. I am 5'7" with 31 inside leg and I have the standard seat. I get my feet down to the balls of the foot and have only struggled on heavily cambered roads. It's just fine and would massively recommend this bike. I've not hit the centre stand in the road yet but I am doing a track day in 6 weeks and Knockhill so I'll report after that.

If you are are at Knockhill definitely take he centre stand off as you will grind at he bottom of Duffus and the hairpin due to the camber. Also keep your toes in! I'd also put some preload on be rear and take it easy as the front is soft so on very hard braking you'll dive a lot and possibly bottom out the front.

I'm very interested in how you get on. I may come up to see....I take its a Ducati Glasgow night?
