Metzeler Roadtec 01 - Long Life & Great Traction

Pleased to report amazing tire tread life with the new Metzeler Roadtec 01.

I suspect that a lot of this life has to do with the Mupo shock keeping the tire well connected to the road surface.

Anyway, this tire will last a very long time.

Nice! How does the rear tire look? Constant twisty roads are great for even tire wear. But super slab is not so easy on rear tire unless you keep speeds low.
(under 65 mph)

To me the real attraction of the M-01 is the super sticky sporty front tire.
Does it warm up quick in cold weather? I know, hard to test this time of year, but I know race tires take a while to heat up.

The OEM tires heat up fast, but don't have the ultimate side grip STICK that the Metzelers do.

That is the rear tire.

The Roadtec 01 is designed for cold and wet use. Warm-up isn't an issue.
 
OE tires at about 3,000 miles and the OE rear shock. Might have been 3,700 miles.

Might note the wear to the edge of the tread/sipes on the Metzeler, yet a safety margin left beyond. Very pleased with the grip on every surface other than leaned over on wet wide tar snakes. The tire instantly regained traction once off the wet tar.
 
I mis-read your first tire pic ... :roll eyes: For a rear that Metzeler looks good for 2200 miles. Gonna have to try out one of these in future!
 
I may have missed your post about it but I'm curious as to why you decided against the TKC-70's?

I have the TKC-70 waiting for my own fall National Forest exploration.

The Roadtec 01 was purchased for riding with the group on 99% paved roads.

Invisible tire, in that traction is never an issue, cold or hot, wet or dry, paint or tar snakes, etc...

The wear bars are right near the top, so no more than 4,000 miles for me.

Funny to see how the sides have worn the same as the center.

Most of the use has been on very abrasive roads, and ridden with a heavy throttle when possible.

Is it just me or is your front tire very trapezoidal? Flat in the middle with flats on each side. The rear looks very evenly worn.

The front tire doesn’t seem that way when casually looking at it.

Corners very well, though I’m not scraping any metal on corners.

Heavy braking causes uneven wear on all front tires, this one does appear to have some.

If you head to the Sierras I will privately share the secret road where you too can explore your cornering ability at speed. A road that calls bikes like the XR.
 
I concur. I put these tires one and last one I hit some local mountain roads. I still don't have the skill to touch the elephants at the edge (it's very close on the left side) but I always felt confident going around the many turns.
