Below is a quick pic and description of my Escort 8500 Radar setup.

The Visual alert is from:

Eventhough it is very functional and serves its purpose I think it looks hideous on such a clean looking bike.

I actually find it quite unobtrusive compared to other setups I have had. It fits neatly between the handlebar controls and mirror stem. I have always been more of a function first kind of guy. Here's another view.

I think it looks fine and I love the setup...the cops in my area, however, take great exception to these. I'd rather be caught doing 190 Km/hr than simply be caught with a detector. Yep..*that* bad.

i talked to enough cops and tried a couple detectors when I was younger. I still think they ultimately just tell you that you're definitely getting lit up. My neighbor was a cop and he should me the kill switch they used in traffic and during traps; think instant on when they release the switch...a detector can't get around that.

Had a friend in school that floored his nitrous Corrado VR6 literally everywhere and swore by his Valentine 1. I still think it's about where, when and how you speed that keeps you safe.

Instant on is tough to beat. Most cops up around here in very rural New Hampshire just cruise around with their radar on. For those instances, the detector works well.

Please keep in mind that I am not some crazy old ******* that is going 100 mph all the time. I completely agree that being smart about how and when you exceed the speed limit has a considerable bearing on getting pinched. We have lots of 35 MPH rural roads here, and it's very easy to safely cruise along at 50-55. The radar detector is just a tool that can help...and believe me, it has saved me many times.

Thanks Bill and I agree it looks fine. From further back looks decent, I have my Garmin 60csx and my S3 weatherproof box on my bars and it's functional but necessary going all over and being on call 2weeks a month for the hospital.

Wildbill, did you watch them hook up the GPS? On the Multi12 there is a plugin for GPS on the left side under the panel, just wondering if the Hyper has the same setup.

Bill do me a favor when you get your new Multi home and see if the foot pegs are the same as the Hyperstrada units. Would also like to know if the water pump guard from a 1200 Multi will fit the Hyper.

The footpegs appear to be identical.

Haven't got the GPS yet. Should be in this week sometime. I will ask them about the power location. I actually told the dealer I would just hook it up myself, but they said, they would do for free...so...why not.

I pulled the left side panel off (that is where it is on the Multi12) but nothing there that I could see. Later I found the SAE 2 prong battery charger connection under the seat on the right side so connect to that, just have to remember to disconnect or turn the GPS off when I park.

Not sure if all the bikes come with that charger plug or my dealer set it up?

The wiring diagram in the manual shows a connector for GPS that's on the same circuit as the power plugs. Its a red wire with a black strip from what I can tell. Not sure where it is located though. Assume that it is under one of the plastic covers.

Thanks, bet it is behind the one under the tank. I will take a look today.

I dont suppose we could figure out how difficult it would be to mount the Multi12 crach bars to the Hyperstrada?
