Great forum--Thanks to all for the great info.
I am a 71 year old rider from Williamsburg.
Considering a 2013 Hyperstrada 821.
Have owned 14 bikes in as many years.
Currently riding a Burgman 650 Executive.
Desire to get back on something more spirited.
I previously owned a 620 Multistrada.
I am kind of big at 6 ft 245 lbs.
The ergos look to be great but have seen some comments about lack of comfort for big riders. Does this primarily mean tall?
I only have 31 inch inseam.
I ride mostly on two lane country roads// some hwy. and no off roading.
Speed is not my bag--over 85 mph is mostly never.
Belong to a great club of riders of all ages /bikes/ gender etc

Comments and advice is appreciated.

Welcome! Indeed, there is a great group of people here, sharing a lot of good information.

I don't believe this bike to be particularly uncomfortable for big riders, compared to other bikes. I'm 6 ft myself although I weight a measly 140 lbs. I can barely put both of my feet flat on the ground (32" inseam) but the bike is so light (not dirtbike-light but streetbike-light) that leaning it a bit to the side is not a big deal.

Do you have a way to go to a showroom and sit on one of the new ones? Or is the 2013 that you are considering close enough that you can go just to sit on it and maybe ride it before purchasing it?

I sat on a 939 at my dealers showroom.
It took very little lean and is a featherweight compared to some of the monsters I have owned (800 + lbs.). I rode a 2006 gs 650 and it was similar. I rode the same year 650 Dakar and that was a big lean and awkward. I am not used to being right over the bars and out in the wind but I have read that can be calmer than some of the fully faired bikes I have owned.
Thanks again
ED

I'm 6'3" with a 34" inseam and I find it quite comfortable, of course I'm coming from little 600cc sport or standard bikes. I've done a few roadtrips on this bike and aside from my back getting a little tired at the end of a full day (full day being 400+ miles and 8+ hours) I don't have much to complain about.

Welcome, I,m 60 and I,ve owned HS since almost a year, great bike, I just finished a 2000 milies trip 5 days and was great.

I,m 5.6 and de HS fits perfect, if you want something higher just change the sit for a regular Hipermotard seat.
My other bikes; two Triumphs, Bonneville and Thruxton

I'm 6' and a bit, wear a 34" inseam, and weigh 175 in full leathers + gear.

Compared to my '08 Road Glide (now gone), it's not as easy on the knees. But compared to my '05 SV650 it's more than halfway there. I don't think you'll feel cramped on the 851.

I agree about the standard vs. Strada seats; the standard one puts me further forward and lets me move around more. The Strada seat kind of locks you in place. It does reduce the reach to the ground a bit. And your weight will settle it more, too.

I've had a lot of bikes in my 52 years of riding, and the Strada is a keeper. Check out my "Bikes I've Known" posts in the Lounge sometime.
