Hi I'm David, living in Fairfax, VA (near Washington, D.C.).

Rode to Winchester Va. this past weekend to Duc Pond motorsports to look at a Multistrada. Bike seemed big to me (versus photos) and after my comment to this effect, the sales mgr introduced me to the Hyperstrada. I loved the bike! It was too late in the day for a test ride, but I told him I would come back another day to ride both the Hyper and the Multi (with my real interest being the Hyperstrada).

But after joining the forum yesterday and reading about all the problems that Hyperstrada owners are experiencing, I'm not going back. Quality and reliability are huge issues in today's market. Who wants to pay for a premium brand only to be angered and frustrated with repeated quality/repair issues as part of the new ownership experience? Reading about the Hyperstradra quality issues reminds me of a quote I read from a Ducati Rider when the Multistrada was first introduced. He said something to the effect that "with all those electronics and a Ducati engine, the bikes will be in the shop more than they'll be ridden."

I'll just keep my 2006 BMW R1200RT Sport Tourer and my 2007 Buell Lightning 1200 TT. Too bad 'cause I loved the size, performance and riding possibilities associated with the Hyperstrada. But I'm too old and too impatient to deal with quality issues.

Hi David, At first I wondered if you were trolling for some competitor! Please read a few more threads. There are many posts here about perfect reliability, and also why forums attract the few who have problems. They are often self-inflicted. Some owners seem to have - I don't know - maybe it's bad karma. Or a bad dealer.

I sold my '06 XB12Ss to make room for my Strada. No regrets. It has some minor faults, but lack of reliability has not been one of them. It has been as good overall as any bike I've ever owned, and much better in many ways.. I've had more than a few, but I am keeping this one!

I don't know what car or bike doesn't have an internet forum full of complaints. Nothing I've owned in the past fifteen years for sure.

Anecdote does not equal data, but in my year of ownership and I think 8,000 miles, the only problem I've had is that I melted the headlamp socket. But I put a stupidly high wattage bulb in, so ******* on me...

hetrida , I felt the same way as you , but I bought one . I've (knock on wood) have not had any problems in 1500+ miles . Sold a GSA 1200 and the Duc is look riding a dirt bike compared to that Tank . Good luck on your decision . :)

The only thing I can say after 25 year in the automobil sector (Audi - Mercedes - BMW) - on the forums you read only the problems and nothing about the good things because that's normal for the owners.

I bought one of the first Hyperstrada's (chassis 113) and it's my best Ducati ever with no problems (just throttlesensor in warranty). I was last week at the WDW in Misano and one of friends Monster broke down. They give her a new Monster 1200 so she could return to Belgium and Ducati will fix her bike in Bologna. Now that's service!!! but nobody will put it on a forum.

But you just did...thank you!

Hi David, I totally agree with others here that have had good experiences and great reliability with their Hyperstradas. I am at 2000 miles on mine, no problems at all. If you come through Central VA give me a shout on 540-415-0340, and you can try mine. Bring Buell or the RT and we can swap and ride for an afternoon. Nice roads in the area!

This is hetrida -- thanks to everyone who replied to my e-mail about concern regarding quality/reliability issues with the Hyperstrada. I genuinely appreciate hearing the good news from owners who haven't had issues. Based on all the positive inputs, I think I'll reconsider my decision not to return to Duc Pond motorsports for a test ride. Might get back there this weekend.

Thanks again to everyone their responses -- I really do appreciate it. The Hyperstrada just looks like my kind of bike. In any case, I'll see how things play out -- I don't have a plan to buy a new bike until next spring (but then you never know).

Hello BlueSuede,

I really appreciate the offer to ride together and swamp bikes. I may take you up on that after I do a test ride at Duc Motor Sports in Winchester, VA.

I think it's about a 2 hour ride south on Hwy 29 from where I live in the Chantilly/Fairfax area to Charlottesville. So I could ride down, take a short ride with you and ride back without too many miles on my lower back.

In any case, thank you for the offer and your phone number!

David

I've lately been into the cafe racer and scrambler scene as well. I have an old Honda that has been built into a scrambler with clip-ons. It looks awesome and is fun to ride. I was thinking of selling my HS to finance another scrambler project (note that this only came to mind beacuse i hadn't ridden the HS in a while). Today i went on a 200 km ride with some highway and plenty of twistys on the HS. Let's just say I'm not considering selling the HS. I fell in love with it all over again. I've had no issues with it (2013 with termis and 4500km on it). It's a fantastic bike and it works great on track, twistys and highway. On my trip today I went by my dealer for a part i ordered, but the delivery guy was late. The dealer threw me the key to a Monster 1200s and said: "why don't you go and have som fun for a couple of hours!". Came back with a grin on my face, part innstalled and took off on the HS, still loving the bike. Need any more convincing? :)
