I have a 13 hyperstrata which has been reliable until today. The engine cranks but will not start. Battery had (past tense) full charge and the starter appeared to crank as normal. Engine cranks but will not fire. I've read about the throttle assembly issues...can this be a symptom?

The fuel pump does activate, all fuses are good. I did note the ambient tempature was reading 101 Fahrenheit when actual temp was 90 degrees. After an hour and a half of attempting to crank it over (not continuous) the battery lost its potential. I charged the battery for 30 minutes. First attempt, it started right up. The ambient temp on the display indicated 87 degrees. The throttle assembly responded as designed. Bike ran fine afterwards.

Did you open the gas cap to release any potential vacuum? If, in that heat, the fuel expanded and saturated the evap cannister, you could end up in a situation where the fuel pump couldn't produce enough/any flow.

I did remove the gas cap prior to initial engine cranking. That has become a norm during the start up process. Looks like I'll be removing the canister soon. Thanks for your input...

Picked up bike from dealer Friday afternoon. Throttle assembly replaced via recall. Removed canister. Put 250 plus miles on between trip home and Saturday riding. Bike starts and runs great. Awesome dealer support.

Well it's back...Had a no start condition last weekend (09/04/16)...After sitting approx 45 minutes, engine fired right up with out any issues afterwards. Yesterday morning, engine cranks but will not fire. No check engine light, fuel level/quality good. After 45 minutes of random attempts, push started down the driveway, engine fired and ran great all day(went through 2 tanks of gas). This morning, no start. Attempt push starting (down the driveway), engine fired ran about 20 seconds and cut out. Multiple attempts through out the day, engine cranks but does not fire. Canister removed and throttle assm. previously replaced. Any one out there with this condition. 5,100 miles. Dealer serviced every spring since new...

Air, fuel, spark. Check to see if they are working. Maybe you got lucky and your failing coil hasn't killed your dash but just... died instead.

my local dealer has just replaced the side stand switch on mine for cutting out . it might not be anything to do with your problem but it is worth a look.

Thanks for the responses. Fuel delivery is there. All fuses are good. I'm thinking its spark/ecm related. Trailering to dealer tomorrow. Will post repair.

Just an update. Fuel and spark are present. Dealer performed compression test. Both cylinders significantly low on compression. Dealer support is excellent so I'm hoping Ducati steps up and takes care of this.

The low compression does not sound good but glad to hear you have a good dealer. I do also and it makes owning the Duc's a joy.

Hopefully they take care of you, and please share why you had low compression if they tell you.

Yeah that'll be a good new one for the knowledge base. Hopefully they give straight answers!!
