Designed 3 Ducati game changers:
Sprt Classics
Multistrada
Hypermotard
Without having known who he was at the time, and as a rider who never envisioned himself as a Ducati dork as a beginner rider, I've had all three in my family.
Say what you will about the 1st gen Multi...but never has there been a better looking *** on a bike. Trellis frame, beautiful use of negative space; it was yesterday and tomorrow, at the same time. But, a Butterface.
The "S" version carved like a knife, though. One of those expensive, $800 pocket knives.
The front end aesthetics grew on me the more I compared it to the Adventure. It's just a superbike and an adventure merged in the front.
I actually prefer the Multi's riding position to the Strada, but I've only had the Hyper for 3 weeks, it could grow on me.
The GT line? Come on. They're going for over retail 4-7 years old.
We all, obviously, love the Hyperstrada. But, the Strada lacks the Motard soul that the 1st Gen hyper had. It was a true motard. You could ride flat track style with your leg out. That thing was nuts! Just wacky, crazy fun. The interstate on that was exhilarating.
Don't get me wrong, I love Hyperstrada, but it is a bit tame (riding position compared to 1st Gen) and a bit lame (no trellis sub-frame). The Hyperstrada is the perfect bike for my commute, but I'd consider adding a 1st Gen Hyper SP to the stable in the future.
He's also a pretty nice guy, it seems.
Last year, researching mods for the wife's GT, when I realized the Terblanche designed both my bike, and my wife's.
I decided to send Mr. Terblanche an email, stating my appreciation for his work, and he actually emailed me back the next day.
So, what's his Legacy at Ducati?
I say genius.
Some say otherwise.
I hear he's working for a small, American motorworks, now.
Excited to see what he does next.
So, do you love or hate Terblanche's work for Ducati?
