I recently bought a 2013 Hyperstrada and am having a hard time getting the tab under the center of the seat to hook under the lip of the frame cross member as shown in the manual. My tab wants to ride on top of the cross member rather than under it.

Does anyone know the technique to get it to fit appropriately? Thanks.

I had to stack washers under the crossmember to raise it so lip would grab it. I also have trouble getting the forward arms to seat on the spindles correctly.

Well after seeing this I checked and by golly mine was the same, downside is the seat had been rubbing on the frame and now has a wee hole in it. Took it to the dealers and asked for warranty on it. Let's see what happens.
I may grind off some of the seat plastic tab on the new one, or the old one if they don't change it

yeah, if you give the seat a tug upward near the transition to passenger seat and it lifts even slightly, it's not on right. I don't know if I would trim the tab; it's pretty important in keeping you but planted. I'd look to adjusting the crossmember it makes purchase with before trimming. Or just make the dealer fix it.

After reading your comments, my husband and I tried a two person technique. I guided the front tabs to their mates, and he slightly folded the seat in the middle and pushed it down and forward. After a couple of tries, we got it to work.

My note to Ducati is that this is a design flaw and it should clearly not take two people to put a seat on the bike.

it was way too difficult to get it to hook up by myself. I'm just glad the crossmember was adjustable. Try raising it a quarter inch or so with washers. Took at least a stack of 4 to get it right.

Raising the cross member with washers might work, but it would raise the seat height. I am short so it would be a problem for me if the seat were raised. It would be better for me if the tab on the seat base was angled out a bit more so it would hook up better. Maybe a hair dryer and putty knife could be used to bend it out a bit?

If the tab isn't docking with the crossbeam like it should, then raising it until they connect as intended shouldn't raise the seat height. It only took a couple mm's, less than the seat compresses when you sit on it.

Bending the tab might work, too.

I use the low seat most of the time and I find that bending it up at the back a little from the centre point and it slips into the bracket perfectly. Might try the standard seat on the weekend and see if the techniqe works as well.

middle seat tab

I noticed the seat was loose after replacing it the first time or two. A slight press at mid seat during the final push forward seats it properly for me.

Maybe weight on the seat with it impropely fitted has deformed the crossmember. Since discovering how the tab works have had no issues.

hi
i am sorry to bring this thread up again, but i am having same issue with my seat.

i am guiding the front part correctly and making sure that the centre tab is under the bar attached to the frame of the bike and locking the rear, but still i have the front seat movement and quite a tank to seat gap.

what am i doing wrong please?

thank you

I have the same problem. The front catches spring out of position, the centre part is still attached as it should be, and there seems to be a larger than normal gap all the way along the seat between it and the frame. Doesn't stop me riding and enjoying myself, but I will mention it at the first service.

The fuel cap seems to get stuck on with suction also, it can be a pain to remove and comes off with a hiss.

i have 2 seats
- the stock one, which sits nearly perfect, just a very little tolerance in front fittings
- the 2 cm lower seat, which has a lot of tolerance in front and is quite loose at front mounts

both fit perfect in the middle mount, so, the difference is a tolerance of the front mounts on the seat side.

as i want to use the lower one, i wrapped some isolatortape around the front mounts on the bike until the seat had no tolerance at all.
fits perfect now without feeling loose.

I had a bit of trouble the first time I removed and replaced my saddle. After that, no more issues. So either my saddle is not as bad as the rest of yours or I have a different technique for replacing it.

When replacing my saddle, I push down on the top of the saddle where the tab is that engages the cross member and lift the back of the saddle a bit. Once that tab is engaged you should be able to manipulate the saddle to engage the front tabs. (The cross member tab will engage before the front tabs.)

All that said, my guess is that my saddle is not as difficult to replace as those of yours who are having issues.

I've always been able to fit the seat ok, there is a bit of a knack to it though, but recently I noticed the right hand fabric of the underside of the seat had rubbed through (like a few others on here) So I like Dammit fitted the a couple of washers under the crossmember to raise it slightly. Fitting the seat doesn't need a "knack" now, just slides straight into place. Hopefully the seat won't rub anymore either. Fingers x'd

I have to push down pretty hard on the center of the seat when sliding it on.

It's a Ducati. They are made to look pretty and sound pretty. Functionality is an afterthought ;)
