Second breakdown

I am a very upset Ducati owner mainly because I have had my Hyperstrada break down twice already with only 6000 miles on the odometer. First breakdown was when my Strada had the coil issue and needed the wiring, coils, and dash replaced. It took my dealer well over a month to fix it and I was without my favorite mode of transportation in the fall of 2013. Now I had the clutch cable break and my dealer can't service it for another three weeks for a simple fix since they are booked up. Should I request for a loaner bike from my dealer (Ducati Triumph NYC)? I've bought two bikes from them in just the past year and I feel like they aren't even concerned that my bike keeps breaking! I'm at the point of selling my Strada right now after getting the cable replaced at the end of May. I feel like I have gotten a dud and I don't want a bike that will be constantly having issues! Any input?

What, this is 5 min Job to change the cable. It's not rearly broken this can happen on any bike with a clutch cable. The cable needs from time to time a little bit Oel. I think you have a Dealer problem, my Dealer would fix it without appointment! Or I do it by my self. Mybe you have the chance to buy the cable and do it by your self. ;)

Three weeks of a cable? Time for a new dealer with some common sense and one that cares about customer service.

I know this will sound like a bit of a red herring, but I think you have a dealer problem as much as a "Ducati" problem. When I had my ECU issue last year, my dealer had a loaner - a Ducati Monster - under my butt so fast I hardly had time to get a drink of water, and I'm really not kidding. I had it for a week, no questions asked. I wasn't expected to have it back until they called me to say my bike was ready. I don't mean to suggest that the issues you've had with the bike aren't incredibly frustrating, - absolutely I'd be pi$$ed too - but I'm shocked that your dealer hasn't been more accommodating.

I'd ask for a loaner or demo bike while you wait it's really the least they can do and it's no money out of their pocket, they must have a monster or speed triple with a few miles on it to lend out.

I don't understand why some dealer's don't loan bikes. Just like demo days, they can just make you sign a waiver for liability and anybody with decent insurance shouldn't have issues if it gets dinged up.

Guys, like i said before you can buy the cable in any Motorbike Shop it's Not specially made for Ducati and you fix it in 5 max 10 min! I always habe spare cable with me!

How do you replace the cable? Would I need to pull the tank off to replace it?

Thank you! I will be calling them on Tuesday when they open back up and see what they will do for me. If they tell me sorry we can't give you a loaner or even fix it any sooner than the three weeks they told me, I will be switching dealers and never going back to Ducati Triumph NYC for anything. Also guys, I am only 23 and they probably just think that they can get away with this.

Alternative

Just a suggestion, maybe it could work out better for you...

Hudson Valley Motorcycles (Ducati Suz Kaw) in Ossining.
Great place... I am very happy with using them.

They are down the street from the Metro North Hudson line.
They will pick you up/drop you off to the station.
1/2 hour train ride to Grand Central.

@cjc045

you have to change only the cable not the hose( just pull the old cable out from the top or from the bottom)!
In many motorbike shops or ebay you can buy a kit called UNIVERSAL EMERGENCY MOTORCYCLE CLUTCH THROTTLE CABLE REPAIR KIT with all the parts you need! They call it a EMERGENCY KIT but you can use it until the next inspection or until you get the
appointment with your dealer!

I have this kit, with the bike tools under the seat!

Complain about the wait on the Ducati world wide website.

Sign up, have your bike frame number ready, and fire off a complaint here:

Ducati Customer Service

When I did this I got a response within the day, and they apparently contacted the dealer where I live because the part I had been waiting for for nearly 2 months suddenly arrived the next day. I am now waiting for a part again and I give them a few days but then I'll send off another email. Ducati are idiots for not keeping parts in stock here in Thailand despite selling thousands of bikes - but they're good in that they do listen to customer feedback on the site. There's hope!
