You would need a good dose of will power to not go wide open everywhere, as it has lots of speed fast. But, good brakes, traction control, plus 3 power modes. Maybe you could put it in urban till you get comfortable with the power delivery. I stay in touring mode myself.
Usually I would prefer a 1st time rider to get something less powerful and cheaper to fix when you drop it from beginner mistakes, usually with braking in slow speed turns.
Seat height is another consideration for a 1st time biker, you would need to get both feet flat on the ground preferably when learning.
Have you at least have attended a MSF course? Lots to learn and get used to on any new bike!
