I've always wondered if there's a reason to use the starter button cover on a regular basis? The only reason I've ever flipped it down was to turn off the engine really quickly.
Safety classes will teach you it's the only way to kill the engine. Never used it on my previous bikes but now I always use it as I usually kill the bike as I roll to a stop or pull into my garage (it's loud and I have kids), plus I often look over trip data before turning the key.
I honestly don't know if there's a technical purpose for it over the key.
I like this style kill switch... Since it covers the starter button you're never that guy that is keying the starter and scratching his head trying to figure out why it won't turn over
