steering head bearing!

Hi, There may have been something on here already about this but it hasn't come up on my search.
My Hyperstrada has done 4700 miles now and I have just noticed that there is movement in the head stock! Has anyone else had this?
It has had the recall for the spacer/seal done about 1500 miles ago. Not sure if two are connected.
I'm taking it into dealer next Saturday to replace neutral switch so I will get them to look and sort it then.

Hi

Had the same problem twice...
At 1500 km and 12000 km
When the hyper had 6000 km there was the recall en they put the extra ring in it.
But when they looked now there was again water in it.

So they fixed the problem for free again

Are you sure its the bearing? Hearing/feeling a solid clunk? I was just told recently that the bars are rubber mounted to dampen vibrations, and as such they can move a bit.

I had them check the neck and bearing when I had my recall done, mostly for the noise I get through the forks. It was fine.

Not sure it's bearing but there is far too much movement. I noticed it first when braking going up to junction. May just need tightening?

If you take a corner left and then immediatly right. Does it feels like your wheel makes a jump...?
srry for the bad explain...

The best test for this is your wheel of the ground ( on you stand ) pull the steer to you and go slowly from.left to right. If you feel that at one point the movement is not smooth ( a moment where it stops and then shoots further ) the head bearing is broken

Same here, tightening steering bolt fixed issue

Hello,
I have had the same issue.
It started with a front brake shacking, and huge vibration when applying brake at low speed.
Then i started to be able to observe a small angular backlash on steering column.
When i went back to the dealer for another issue ( burned front coil) i asked him to check the steering column , and he had to tighten the column special bolt .
this was the fix.

I am now next to the 15000 km visit, and i will have to ask to check it again, since the vibration at low speed are coming back.

The correct way to check the head stock bearing for excessive play, is to put the bike on the center stand and get the front wheel off the ground. (get someone to sit on the pillion seat). Then standing in front of the bike take the front wheel and pull it up and forward and release in a rocking motion several times, you will feel if there is play in the bearing....
you can then turn the handlebars lock to lock to feel for any tight spots or rough turning.

Yes that is my exact symptons. Hope it should be easy fix when I take it in next weekend.
I checked bearings as described, no grinding etc so all reasonably good news.

Took into dealer yesterday. As previously said it just needed tightening up. All fixed☺
