USB charger

Hello Hyperhopps

I´ve mounted something like this on my strada, into the lamp mask.

On my strada i´ve connected it to the accessories outlet, so i have only power when the Key position is on.

With a resistor (200 Ohms) between the data lines, you can charge every phone.

here ya go

for charging phones or other gadgets, i got a dual usb port and mounted it to the LH trellis frame. for switched power connection, black wire goes to ground or directly to (-) battery lead, red wire to the ignition fuse located at the rear fuse box. i permanently plugged 2 usb cables (bought from any cellphone shop for a specific phone), waterproofed with bicycle inner tubes & zip ties then ran the cables fore and aft; 1 end to charge gadgets in the tank bag or in my leg pocket, the other end for gadgets in the tail bag or pannier. when not in use, i just tuck the wires neatly under the saddle and out of the way

Man, I bought a couple powerlet-->USB adapters at a bike shop couple months ago and just recently got around to fitting them. Damn things are wrong size! Just a tad bigger than the powerlet ports on the bike, but much smaller than standard car 12V. Where's the friggin standardization? They were cheap but I seriously can't believe the different makes went with a slightly different proprietary size. I hate non-standardization. Part of the reason Apple drives me nuts. Love their products but did you really have to make your own power adapter?

I used a Hella to Cigarette lighter adaptor (with a 10 inch length of cable between the two) plugged into the power outlet on the left side of the frame. I ran the cable up and under the seat and fitted a 12v to USB adaptor into the cigarette lighter socket.

Voila - 5v under the seat that is changeable straight back to 12v, and it cost all of U$10

I have a permanent "fire wire" cable running from under the seat to the handlebars that I can plug in a GPS or phone etc.

In SA we don't get a lot of rain, so I modified the cradle of a cheap Garmin Nuvi and zip tied it to the cross bar on top of the fork yoke bracket, I now have a solid powered up GPS that works automatically when I switch the bike on.

Talk about Touratech, I am the master of Pooratech:D

I wired a USB outlet to the GPS connection behind the headlight. This works well as long as you don't use the Ducati GPS. The benefits are that the plug is switched and won't drain your battery, you don't have to run a wire from the handlebar to the battery, you don't have to make any modifications to the stock wiring, and the connection is weatherproof if done correctly.

From the factory the GPS connection has an unused male connector plugged in with two wire tails. You can unplug that and use those wires or you can buy a plug separately from digikey (part numbers 455-1205-ND for the connector and 455-1321-1-ND for the pins). I ordered a cheapo usb plug from ebay and stepped down the wire size into the connector and sealed it all with heat shrink tubing.

I've got some pictures I can post later.

I have a dual USB charger installed in the handlehandlebar so I can charge my smartphone and another gadget at same time..... Later I can post some pics

I have a set of powerlet cables that I hook into the front socket. One for the phone (2ft), one for the gopro (a 2ft 90-degree one which works...mostly), and one to SAE. I use the gopro one when it's on the bars recording. I run the SAE one into my tank bag, where I have a waterproof run-through that splits into another powerlet socket and a cigarette socket. The cig socket has a small 2-port USB adapter that I run cables from to charge the phone, the backup phone battery, the gopro, or my Sena bluetooth headset at the same time when I'm not using them. The phone goes into a side pocket of the tank bag or the clear map pocket on top and I close the zippers/velcro on the cable to keep the worst of the elements out.

The only time I've overloaded the socket's 15 amp fuse is when I tried using my truck's cigarette lighter air compressor to air the tires. If I used the extra socket on the run-through splitter or the rear socket at the same time I'd start worrying about the fuse again. Something to keep in mind.
