Voltage Regulator Over Charging Causing Dash To Flash.

Hi,

Just posting this to help anyone who is having similar issues.

18 months ago the voltage regulator was replaced due to low charging causing the battery to go flat. Ever since on a hot day sitting in traffic (I commute on it to work) the temp on occasion would reach 103-104 deg, fans would come on to cool and dash lights would flash, engine light would also come on. As soon as it cooled down by getting some air flow, all would return to normal.

Recently, the dash flashing issue has become worse, and now it happens after 15 minutes of riding regardless accompanied with poor running and a misfire. Checked the battery voltage via the dash, reads 14v, relatively normal. Also it has logged many strange error codes, communication errors....the list goes on. (It has the CAN Bus recall mod)

Anyway, checked the voltage with a multi meter and reads over 18v, (Dash still reads 14v) so it looks like the voltage regulator has died again. Have ordered a replacement, waiting for it to arrive. Will up date when fitted.

The new voltage regulator rectified the dash flashing issue, still has a slight misfire when accelerating...not as bad as it was. Still investigating that issue.

It seems to be low revs (1st, 2nd, 3rd) pulling away from traffic lights, slowing down in traffic and accelerating. It can be two or three in a row, or just one, otherwise it seems ok...higher revs etc. Have replaced the plugs, swapped coils, checked and re seated all connectors. Has a Rexxer tune, original tune does the same.

Subscribed.
I'm having a misfire fire also during moderate/high acceleration. It happens on ~4k and ~6k rpms. Repeatable. t's like a milisecond misfire. Always in the same rev range. New spark plugs, eldor coils, new air filter... read in other forums that this could be the DTC kicking in, but I didn't see the DTC red light flashing. In other popular forums I read that this could be a TPS issue.

I haven't taken any notice of exactly what rev's its doing when it happens, I assume 2-5k. I have reset the TPS (you can do that with the Rexxer unit) and still no good, it could be faulty as you suggest. It came good the other week, thought it was fixed but came back the next time I rode it. Will do some more checking this week and let you know if I find anything.

I have a 2nd gear misfire at approx 8K rpm under 90%+ throttle. I've had since a big overhaul that included 14T front sprocket and 520 chain conversion. I have a RB Evo tuner but it was on for nearly 10K miles before that upgrade with no issues. Removing the map/tune had no effect. I've since replaced the O2 sensors and cam timing sensor. My mechanic could have possibly reset the TPS when he had recently but I can't confirm.

Went for a ride today, after sitting idle for two weeks, same problem, misfire 2-6k...... (not that I thought it would be different) Have not had a chance to check anything in relation to the misfire.

Put it on the centre stand after returning home, thought it was sitting at a strange angle, the left bolt of the centre stand has fallen out somewhere.

Think its time to trade up.

Still having the misfires on 3~4rpm and 6.5~rpm on acceleration. It usually happens with hot engine. The TPS has been reset with no luck. Do you guys think that's a possible CPS failure?

I suppose TPS failure possible.

I rode the bike today, thought it seemed ok for about the first 5k, I then put the heated grips on and (weather a coincidence or not) it started doing it. Turned them off and it continued, need to investigate further. Do you have heated grips?

No I don't.
I took a ride yesterday and it happened only few times. It was a chill day (16 ºC) here. I need to ride more to validade if ambient temperature really matters.

No idea. I've replaced/troubleshot all the possible serviceable items (CPS, plugs, O2's, flapper valve, injectors...) except ECU, back to 15T front sprocket, or replacing RB Evo ($$$). Had two mechanics chase it, too. Mines at 8K in 2nd gear only.

Hi, what is CPS....? I have been checking more things with no luck. Thinking I will need to pull the air box out and check the TPS units for any obvious issues, corrosion etc. Will let you know what i find.

Crank Position Sensor. It was my last hope. No change.
Ok, I pulled my CPS out as well and checked, I had it out with the starter replacement....no change. Will check the TPS next week. looking at the parts guide, you cannot buy the TPS, they come with the throttle body assembly. $$ (Unless im mistaken)

Ya, best to fight the dealer for TPS issues. It's a safety concern and they've had TSB's for it. The dealer can perform a reset. I wouldn't buy a replacement unless I was confident it was the culprit.

I have a Rexxer module, you can reset the TPS with that unit (which I have done) no change, let you know if I find anything when I pull it apart and have a look at the TPS. Failing that I will have to take it in.

Hi,

Have not had time to pull the bike apart. Running some injector cleaner in the tank at the moment, will let you know if it improves the misfire issue.
