I've been riding dirt bikes since I was 4 and just started commuting on my first street-legal bike a few years ago. I've modified the bike a ton to suit my needs, but I keep wanting to ride further and further and it's time for a serious upgrade.
I joined the forum to do some more research on the Hyperstrada after test riding one at the local Ducati dealer. I was pretty excited to see a Ducati with the sort of maintenance schedule that I can ride it every day.
I'll probably buy one and start modifying it some time before next spring. I'm hoping I can fab or purchase a decent skid-plate, some armor, and reduce the weight enough to keep up with my friends and family on their BMW adventure bikes.

That's a pretty good deal for sure. The dealer in Seattle wants full msrp plus another $700 or so in freight and setup fees. I got on the list to be notified when a demo bike comes up for sale or I'll check back when the 2014's start to arrive.

Right now nobody is making skid plate or any armor to speak of. Alt rider who is up in your area has a few items starting and may have others in development just don't know yet. You should stop by their place and pester them about it! Belleview Ducati has some photos up on their site with some things they are working on, check that one out as well

Ya, I should probably pay them a visit. Just checked the map and they're about 5 minutes from me. I've also got access to some 3 and 4 axis cnc mills that I can carve out custom parts on.

Would be a thick chunk of billet to carve out a proper sump guard! The header pipe need protection as well.
