Warranty Work

My front rotors are warped. I was very caution during break in and bedded them gradually. Probably first noticed around 800 mile point. Not entirely sure if they'll be covered but dealer will submit claim with Ducati.

My bike was one of two delivered without a PIN for immobilizer. Just found out this means Duc will have to replace dashboard, along with new keys and PIN. That was an expensive mistake on their part. Dealer doesn't know if this will reset odometer or mileage will be retained.

I've got about 1250 miles on the clock now.

I now have the same problem with the warped front rotors after only 500 miles and also being careful - light braking. Will let you know what dealer says.

Plus the left mirror lens cracked while I was simply adjusting it

Engine difficult to start sometimes, especially when trying to restart after engine not fully warmed up. I was careful with not overfilling based on the other posts.

Not thrilled with the quality so far. Hopefully it will be ok once these initial things are sorted out.

Every new vehicle has issues. True test is how the company handles repairs. My dealer has been throwing "warranty" around like it's no issue at all.

I can see any manufacturer balking at the warped rotors - very easy to say it was due to improper break-in. I don't want to sour relationship with shop, but they better smooth out when turned if that's the case...ain't buying new rotors with 1200 miles on them.

WTF is this rotor break-in?! Do they not heat treat the rotors when they manufacture them? Never had to break in rotors on anything ever!

Just applying car rotor bedding-in process to the bike. After engine had a couple hundred miles of mostly engine breaking, I gradually used greater and greater pressure on front rotors when coming to a stop. Nothing dramatic, but gradually introducing a good amount of force to rotors is supposed to bed the pads into surface of rotors for good bite patch. I can't imagine why this would harm them. Brakes are brakes.

Mayranf. Have the dealer install the new software on your ECU. It looks like there has been 2 updates since the bike was released and it should help fix some of this problems.

So the brake warpage is caused by old software?

How's that?

I think he was referring particularly to the warm engine starting problem.

Anyone with warped rotors should definitely be covered under warranty. My dealer never mentioned rotor break-in when he delivered the bike to me.

Actual "break in" of brakes is seldom mentioned in manuals or by dealer personnel in either the car or bike industry. And typically it isn't an issue either. Most people use their brakes gently when they're getting used to a new vehicle so warpage very rarely becomes an issue. In fact it's most common in cars when people tend to leave their foot resting on the brake pedal and can overheat the pads against the rotors and lead to premature wear and warpage. Far less common on bikes, but still possible, it'll certainly be covered under warranty on any new bike so don't let it worry you. All the dealer technician has to do is measure the runout and send the numbers off to DNA with the proper repair order file & it'll be no problem at all.

Warped Rotors Part Duex

Seriously. Maybe 600 miles on new rotors (which were new part # than stock) and I've got warpage...again. This doesn't feel as severe as first time. I'm guessing there as I don't really hear & feel the warp points until below 15 mph or so. This coupled with the sharp dive point in front suspension makes me look like a noob when coming to a spirited stop. Slow coasting stops aren't too bad but the grinding just before coming to a rest is pretty loud.

I really can't imagine it's anything I'm doing wrong. I was very careful with this new set for first couple hundred miles and they started off great. Just worried what the dealer is gonna say. I'm afraid he's gonna start questioning my riding skills. Crap.

Yeah, and I still have a lot of noise and road feel as the front forks work up and down, which subsided a bit when new rotors were installed. Actually, the whole front end was just more calm and stable before rotors got warped again. I really think it's something deeper in the front end beyond just the rotors.

Fawk. Just got my girl back and they said I might have a "loose button" on the rotors. Tech and owner said they could somewhat feel warpage with just right amount of lever pull at slow speeds, but wrote it off as mild "pulsing". I rode the demo back to back with mine and demo was smooth as glass on the brakes. They welcome me coming back with detailed description of issue but I just hate the idea of getting into a warranty battle with a dealer I respect. But I've gotta stay on it because it's just not right.

My dealer told me to go easy on the brakes during the first 200 km.
Just to let the pads get "used" to the disks.

Did work although I had to make an emergency stop at about the first 50 km.
Some ***** pulled out in front of me and I had no other option.

Got 7500 km on it and no problems with brakes.

Question, do demo bikes have warped disks...... they get abused from the start...

I was all motor during break in and barely touched the brakes. Like I said, I rode the demo with 400+ miles and the brakes were smooth as silk.

I have a question on the rotors linked to the brake noise and pulsing. As soon as I pull the front brake I feel this pulsing (switched the ABS off and its still there). With limited knowledge I checked the rotor for warpage but it seemed fine. My 2008 Hyper was smooth as silk, my triumph was smooth as silk.
Question: how do I check for warpage?

Its going back to the dealers regardless as I find the pulsing and brake noise unacceptable.

Twozzie, put the bike up so the front wheel is in the air. Spin it. Put you finger, screwdriver, or something onto a solid part of the forks, then put it nearer until it just touches the still spinning brake disk. When the disk spins does the distance from your measuring device change?
