WD-40 is Great for Chain Cleaning - Safe Too

For me, this is the only 'lubricant' I apply to my O-ring motorcycle chains. Sure doesn't attract dust and grit like the usual oily chain lubes, and it keeps the rear wheel area far cleaner. Just be sure to apply regularly and liberally, then rag off the excess. And keep checking your auto supply shop for WD-40 specials...

Age old argument. It's mostly kerosene - more a cleaner than a lube.

I tried the WD40-only chain maintenance thing for a little bit. It didn't work out too well. If it was even misty/foggy out, the water would collect on the chain and cause rust. And the chain just felt rough.

I've tried many chain lubes and settled on Honda chain lube with moly. I don't even bother cleaning the chain, just spray on more moly. It's a dry lube - doesn't attract dirt, stays smooth for a long time. Prevents rust. Pretty cheap too.
