What'd you do to your Hyperstrada today?

I don't think there's a thread like this on here yet, so I figured I'd make one. What'd you do to your Hyperstrada today? Pictures are always nice!

I'll start...

Today I installed a Garmin Zumo 390 GPS with TPMS. I also installed a brake light modulator (SupaBrake-II motorcycle tail light modulators | vizi-tec) -- was plug and play and took 2 minutes to install and I think it's a fantastic safety feature that really gets motorists attention when you brake. I also had a Shorai 18A lithium battery installed today... only weighs 2 lbs and I never have to worry about putting it on a battery tender!

I forgot to take pictures of the GPS installed on the bars (doh!), but here's some pictures of the installation.

Wired it into the Key 2 fuse for switched power. Initially, I tried wiring it into Fuse 1 (headlights), but discovered that fuse must have a bad ground because when I grounded the GPS to the bike's frame, the ground screw started lightly sparking. Baffled, I touched a multimeter to it and the GROUND was putting out 6 volts. Switched my GPS power into Fuse 4 and problem solved.

Closed the fuse box up and cable tied everything neatly.

Tomorrow, going to install a 14T front sprocket!

Wow, sticking a bare wire end under a fuse blade...:(

That is not a reliable connection. Find a soldering iron and some heat shrink! The service manual has a useful set of harness routing pics, and the wiring diagram is in the back of your owner's manual. Or connect directly to the battery, with an appropriate fuse..

This is the sort of thing that often results in some sort of failure, and the owner usually blames the manufacturer.

I was an M.E. in my past life....dealt with many fires and accidents from poor design and/or execution.

Today I ordered the DP top case rods as I am going to use this knock off pelican case as my new top case.

Anyone in Canada can buy this from princess auto (harbour freight ish to most of you) it would cost $44 but I found it in the wrong bin for $12:eek: I compared it side by side with the pelican iM 2100 I think, and you can tell they were made in the same place by the same robots.

I got my touring screen mounted today. Due to winter time I'm not able to test this untill next spring.
Hopefully the pump protector will arrive this week from S.Korea.

Regard.

There is a dedicated switched power feed for a gps (accessories) behind the headlamp. In the main wire harness!!!
That's very dodgy (cowboy) what you have done.

I'm curious on how will look the bike with this top case. Could you show us some photos?

I only ordered the Ducati parts today. When I get everything in a week or so ill make a thread just for this case showing all the steps I take

Where? Can you please post a picture of where this is? Would be much appreciated! Where is the main wire harness?

I don't see why how I've done it isn't good, but if Ducati designed a slot specifically for a GPS into the bike, please help me locate it and I'll rewire the power cable there.

Thanks!

There is a list with all the Ducati ISTR's in them ( instructions ).
If you take the one with the ducati garmin nhy installation, you get the right wire and connector.
There are probably 2 other connectors for the heated grips.

If you look at the thread GPS / Satnav wiring you will find a link to the ISTR 505.
The heated grips ISTR is 513.

Regards.

The plan for this winter:

Xenon Projector Kit
Bi-xenon: Sportbike Stage I Kit - Complete Retrofit Kits from The Retrofit Source Inc
The std bulb was crap, so I am using a Philips Xenon X-tremeVison (85122XVS1) instead. Much much better.

LED Spot Light
1PC Moto LED Work Spot Light 30W 3000 Lumen 4*Cree XML T6 4T6 LED Motorcycle Driving Light 12V 36VDC-in Lights & Indicators from Automobiles & Motorcycles on Aliexpress.com
One on each side. Extremely good light.

Heat Grips
Just installing them.

Touring Screen
Will be ordered soon.

Brake and Clutch Levers
Have ordered from PUIG. They have not decided yet, when to start manufacturing. Have been waiting since oct-2013.

Additional Turn Indicator Lights
I have always problem to remember to turn off the the Turn Indicator Lights.
Have to install an extra LED light somewhere, that will flash into my eyes.

Crash Protection
Maybe if I can find some that fits the bike.

Thanks! Don't see the problem with the way I did it, but might rewire it into the headlight slot for it just to be sure. Would love to get the harness for it so I can just plug it right in instead of cutting wires, but I'm doubtful that Ducati sells the harness for the Garmin 350 GPS separately from the whole kit.

Very cool! So many questions...

How did you attach the LED fog lights? Which mount did you use?

How do you turn off and on the LED fog lights? Did you install a switch on the handlebars like this one? Motorcycle Black Fog Light Switch 1" 25mm Handlebar 12V DC Electrical System ? | eBay

Any more pictures you can post of both the fogs, the button on the handlebars to activate them, and the Xenon main headlight would be awesome! How long did the install take to install the fog lights and how long to install the Xenons?

Can you link to all the parts I'd need to install the Xenon main headlight and the LED fog lights?

Would love to have that lighting setup, as I agree that the OEM headlight is crap.

StefanR,

How did these mount? Was it a compatible bracket/ had to drill/ adhesive? Do they shake under power and do they hold aim position well - i.e., do they secure in place well enough you don't think they'll start to droop or lose the focus point you set.

Another member fitted Denali D2 projectors, and they both look very similar. I don't know what the lumen rating for Denali's were but they were certainly bright enough and member posted good photo of installation bracket.

Finally, it sounds like both are hardwired to running lamp. Can you flash these? Do they cycle on/off if you flash high beam? I'd really be interested in using these to get stupid, lazy american drivers out of the fast lane.

Not fog light. It's for extra high beam. No extra button on the handlebar.
I mounted them using the upper bolt that holds the radiator side cover.
Additional use of spacers was required, to replace the function of the bolt

We have winter in Sweden, so I do some work now and then. A lot of thinking and headaches to get it real nice.
The guy from who I got the idea about the xenon, said it took him 10 hours. And he owns a shop selling xenon convertion kits.
The LED will take less time.
You have the links in previous post above.

I plan to install an additional pin to secure the bracket. Have not been driving yet, to much snow.
They are connected to the high beam only.
Denali D2 has 900 lumen, mine 3000 lumen :)
