I suspect this has something to do with the way I've disconnected the exhaust flapper, as it seems to go off the first time I close the throttle after first moving away from standstill after I start the bike. I've never seen in come on outside of these conditions. Has anyone else experienced...

I apologize in advance for the possibly stupid question. When you are just cruising at a steady speed, what RPMs do you ride at? I find below 4K the engine seems to be straining and above 5K it wants a new gear. I'm relatively new to motorcycles, so any input would be appreciated.

OK, so it's due it's first service tomorrow anyway but I just about got home any noticed a distinct change in the engine noise. Coming from the front is an additional muffled sound that is very audible over the exhaust on tick over. It's not been there before. Anyone else notice this?
