939 (2016) Headlight dipped beam failure

I was riding back from the Peak District last night and realised that my front low beam headlight was not working.

However, my high beam headlight was working.

I thought this was odd, as I believe the low and high beam lights are both projected from the same bulb? (correct me if I'm wrong here).

As such, one would expect if the low beam had failed, then surely the high beam should not be working either (and vice versa).

I believe the headlights (both high and low beam) are controlled using the same fuse.

Is the solution simply to replace the one bulb for high and low beam functionality to be restored, or is there a potential problem with connections/relays for the low beam? (as it is always on; heat etc.)

NB. The LED parking lights are still working.

Any suggestions, tips, advice is appreciated.
Thank you.

The high and low are run on the same bulb, but it has a separate filament for each.

Just change out the bulb. H4 is what you need.

Thank you. Any recommendations on bulbs?

Warning in advance...I recently had my low beam fail - so I thought I'd change it.
Long story short I broke the retaining clips plastic tower. Headlights are not cheap, not even 2nd hand, so I've glued my bulb in :D welcome to Ducati Hobostrada!

Still if it last 2 years or so.....

The real answer is the main lamp sucks, no matter what bulb you throw in. HID mod is costly and a lot of work.

Get aux lamps. If I had the money, I'd hang a cartoonish amount of lights on mine as it only makes the cars get out of my way that much faster.
