Anyone here know if the rear sprocket of the 939 fits onto the 821 bikes? Reason being the 939 has a 43 tooth and the 821 is a 45 tooth. Thanks.

why would you want to transmit longer ?
all people who change do transmit shorter to get revs up.

to transmit shorter you change front sprocket to a smaller one or back one to a larger one.

i would let it default, best compromise imho

Which raises the question about 939 gearing. 1st on the 821 is pretty high, did they change the gear ratios on the 939?

I have yet to see a bigger front sprocket offered for 821/939, the only option I have found to go taller so far is the 43 tooth back sprocket. Thats just what i have found searching the internet, could be wrong.

Huh, I had no idea they changed the gearing. I don't see why it wouldn't fit though. Should be the same 525 chain.

Anyone else interested in fitting a 530 chain & sprockets? I've been toying with the idea, when it comes time to swap mine out. I'd be willing to bet some of the Multistrada sprockets fit our bikes.

What would be the advantage in going to 530? Would've thought that would cause power loss through the drivetrain?

It would fit, the new 939 uses: 16014211A REAR SPROCKET FLANGE, the same from the 821.

I use the JTA750B adapter, to save money on future rear sprocket changes (to use it with JTR752 sprocket), also available in 45, but I've mounted a 14/42 (due to the supplier stock).

Gearbox ratio is the same, they only changed the rear sprocket for a 43-tooth in the 939 (45 in the 821).

More friction, less acceleration and -in theory- it will last longer. It's used on >1000cc street bikes for example, you can compare the different specs in D.I.D. Racing Chains & DirtStar® Rims (Tensile strenght...).

To me that seems a little daft. First gear is already tall - maybe they're going for higher top speed, but I don't see the point.

939 has more torque so the tall 1st gearing would handle a 43 rear better than the 821.
Fuel consumption would also be down, maybe it was a way of passing euro 4??

I have a 43T on my 821. Much nicer on the highway and 4th gear seems more useful too. It's just a little less of a wheelie launcher now.

I just bought sprockets for my Hyper and decided on 15T and 42T. RK MAX X chain, an AFAM quick change carrier with steel sprocket, and reused the front since it looks almost new.

I'll have to wait until my spring trip to weigh in on how well I like it. I spend too much time on the interstate, and I need all I can do to reduce fuel consumption.
