Air filter loosened

Making an upgrade to a K&N air filter.
When I opened the cover to the air box, the old air filter was loosened and was in the bottom of the air box. The nut had unscrew it self.

I have had some starting problems earlier, especially if the engine stops after I releases the clutch to fast, and if the engine just been started.
Can this be the reason?
No air filter = to lean mixture?

Starting issues when warm are more likely to be an issue with the starter itself as it's not great on any of these bikes and is known to fail on 2015 and earlier models. I'm sure the filter being out of place didn't help however.

Also, I should note I don't see K&N as a good upgrade for these bikes as the filter doesn't work well if not properly oiled which requires that you are accessing the airbox to oil it pretty frequently. Too much oil can also cause issues with sensors. Sprinter filters seem to be a better option as they don't require oiling and have a 6k maintenance window where all you have to do is blow the dust out with compressed air.

I've had many nuts & bolts shake loose on this bike, but that would be a first. Caution on overtightening whichever filter you choose - you can compress and damage the filter if given too much torque.

I will use Loctite

You could use one of those lock nuts with nylon piece. Thats what comes with the Starace RSR kit and it works really good. There is no need to overcome the locktite and possibly break something when it comes time to clean the filter(depending on what strength you use).
