Greetings all,

For years I have been using Maxima Chain Wax on my motorcycle chains. I like that once dry it is not messy.

What are your opinions and what do you use?

On another note, for those of you who have spent the time to dial in you rear suspension, What settings would you suggest I use? I'm 175 lbs and not extremely aggressive in my riding.

Thanks for the help!

We use the same on our street and our dirt bikes and have no complaints. It's our favorite one. We put it on once a week or two weeks depending on home much we are riding...

I use the Motul cleaner and lube because that's what my shop used and I had no basis for comparison at the time. I do have to be very thorough with wipe down as the slung grease is a byotch to clean off the subframe and stained my riding pants.

Might try the wax next.

I've used various brands - Maxima, DuPont, PJ1, etc. Finally found one that works great. Bel Ray Super Clean chain lube. Spray it on, wipe off the excess. Easy to see where you sprayed it, doesn't attract dirt, nice and thick so it lasts.

Kuksul08 ~ Why do you prefer Bel Ray over Maxima? What you describe are the results I get with Maxima Chain Wax. Does it wipe off more cleanly?

The maxima stuff I was using (Maxima Chain Wax - RevZilla) seemed to collect dirt more quickly and was hard to wipe off since it dries in a hard wax form.

The Bel Ray stuff doesn't get hard in the same way but somehow repels dirt. It's also white so it's easy to tell when it's dirty and when you need more. It wipes off alright - as long as you do it right away. If you wait it gets a little gooey.

I generally lube the chain and wipe off the excess from the outside of the links unless I'm riding in the wet, in which case the whole thing gets covered to prevent rust.

I use it for the same reasons, and there is very little overspray so it's efficient.

I also make sure to get stuff between those plates that form the outer links and the o-rings- that's where wear and tear will happen.

I made a slotted pvc pipe section for minimizing the over spray. I just slip it over the chain when I am spraying on the lube. I also like Belray. I do dislike getting the lube on the wheel and bike!

i use S100 white from Dr.Wack.

rear suspension - 10 clicks from open for preload (this is minus 22 from full preload) and 1.5 open for rebound
i am about 80 kg. but i am still figuring it out.
but, last rides worked fine with this setting, together with my new Andreani fork

i use maxima chain clean, spray on, let sit, wash off with hose, then dry chain and use maxima chain wax for protection. my street triple has over 21000 miles on original chain and looks like new. will do the same on the hyper.

How often do you guys spray your chains? 500 miles, 1000 miles? or every week, two weeks, once a month?

We get quite a bit of rain in MN. I go by mileage and environment rather than by any specific time. Visual inspection is the key. I check it every other tank of gas. If everything is looking good, I lube between 500 and 750 miles. If it is not looking good, I'll clean and wipe as often as every day, particularly high mileage, wet, and dirty days.

that makes sense, thats what I was going to do as well. The manual doesn't give any specific time lines either.
