Craptacular plastic headlight clips

Let me guess. Now I can't ride my bike for 4 weeks while I wait for some expensive part to ship from Italy? All because of a stupid little plastic clip that snapped when I tried replacing the bulb after the high beam stopped working.

Has anyone tried just mashing something flexible between the bulb and the domed door at the back of the shell?

$5 fix using weedwacker parts works better than OEM Chinese junk.

You know those old style D battery flashlights? Drop the batteries down the tubular body then screw on the rear cover with the spring loaded contact. Simple, quick and robust. That's my headlight now. Changing the bulb is dead easy and fast with no rooting around inside the shell with your fingers getting cut on sharp edges and poked by nasty spring wires.

What the heck were they thinking when they designed this thing?

Update: after a month of highway commuting the headlight is still firmly where it should be. This fix is sound. Had considered this a temporary repair until I could afford a new headlight shell but I'm just going to leave it be. It's much easier to change the bulb now and a new shell will eventually fail the same way. Why flush money down the toilet?
Besides nobody looking at the bike will ever know it has parts from a weedwacker in it.

Nope, can't beat the price.
It's September 5th and checked the headlight today and still in place as it should be. Even withstood 106 mph rides to work as well as city street construction. Haven't been off road with it yet. Need to test that.
If it survives off road then I will permanently afix it to my headlight shell cover.
