Engine covers corroding

Afternoon folks!

Had anyone noticed their engine covers, i.e. clutch and generator, losing their coating? Nearly half of the clutch side has given up and left behind a rough surface and powdery, white residue. The other side isn't so bad but still looks pretty rough.

just wondering if I've got a leg to stand on, warrantee-wise. Cheers!

Haven't seen this happen before... What are you using to clean the bike? Any scratches/chips that might have been exposed to corrosives?

Oh just the usual, soapy water, baby-wipes, the occasional splash of WD-40 (maybe nearby) and Autosol for the bare metal parts. The rest of the bike is spotless, which is why I ask. Wondering if there were any contaminants in the paint that day. Mine's a 65 plate 821, if that helps anyone?

It's a common complaint from riders in the UK, and seemingly unknown elsewhere.

Often the paint failure is a warranty item as I have seen BMW cover similar failures.

Whatever anti-ice compound is used on UK roads, it appears to destroy many motorcycle parts, from spokes to every painted surface in the path of crud slung from the tires.

Cheers RSL.

We certainly do have a very low grade of road salt, it even destroys the roads!

I'll give the dealer a call and see what they say. Fingers crossed.
