First oil change

Hey guys, have a little over 8500 kms on the bike and wanted to do the oil on the hyper. Needed to buy a 14mm Allen socket. used 4 mm Allen key to remove the 3 bolts holing the engine guard on exposing the oil filter. Pulled out the giant drain plug, oil filter came off by hand. Can't beleive how easy that was!

Does anyone have any solid knowledge of what the "factory fill" oil is?

I wonder if they put non-synthetic to save a few dollars per bike.

My dealer told me the bike runs amsoil dominator 15-40 it pours red so don't be alarmed by that

And yes it's a wet sump, honestly one of the easiest oil changes I've ever done.

My dealer told me that it comes with running in oil from the factory.

The bike has a sticker on it saying to use Shell Advance Ultra 10-40

This is what i used for the 600 mile service, my dealer told me any fully synthetic 10-40 oil should be ok though.

My dealer uses Amsoil as well. I'm not one of those Amsoil cultist but they said the Shell is very expensive and very hard to find on a shelf.

I'm not big on any specific brand oil either but I've been running Amsoil on my R6 as well for years just because its readily available on most shelves in my area, and I do notice a difference in the ease of shifting, sequential transmissions love synthetic for some reason.

with 500 kms to go, planning to do my own oil change for 10,000 kms

took a peek under the crankcase and found 2 allen-type plugs, a 5mm left of crankcase half and a 6mm on the right side with a large allen-type (14mm?) screw right next and perpendicular to it. which one is the drain plug?

Yup. The 6mm on the right side.

I'm about to do my Strada; I like Motul full ester synthetic, 10W50 for our climate. And a K&N filter.

btw, do i need to do an oil flush before putting in the new oil? if so, what oil flushing agent is recommended?

thanks in advance

I never flush the oil on a wet sump, run the bike before you start let it get warm, open the drain, take off the filter, and walk away for about an hour. Then finish your oil change.

R6,

i've never done an oil change in like 20 years and this is my first on a motorcycle. even before with an auto engine, i always felt comfortable getting most of old oil out by flushing. so is it safe do the following?
- drain the old oil
- put in 2 liters of the actual oil i'm gonna use
- run the motor for say 30 secs
- drain the oil
- pull out old filter
- have couple of beers
- finish the job

or is the above really unnecessary and just my OCD kicking in?

I can't see how you could harm anything by doing that but modern engine design is really great at channeling flow to the oil filter and and modern oil filters are great at trapping particals and moving them into the bowels of the filter to not restrict flow.

Basically if you were working on a vintage car, I'd recommend doing a flush like you described, on you're brand new Strada I'd call it overkill.

Just don't get pulled into this foolish 12 000 km oil change nonsense I'm doing mine every 6-7000 kms

ha ha ha, my age is definitely showing. i'm 46 now and 20 years ago that was how i did oil changes on my old aspirated auto engine. can't believe i've been out of the game that long. anyway, thanks for the advice. made my life a lot easier
