For those that upgraded to LED headlight bulbs

I swapped out the stock headlight bulb this weekend to an LED bulb.
Everything went fine, however I noticed that the high beam indicator now blinks when I engage the high beam.

From what I have researched, the high beam indicator will blink when it senses a bad electrical connection in the circuit.

So I am thinking its blinking because it doesn't sense enough of a current draw (?).

So has anyone whom upgraded to an LED bulb (or even HID) experienced the blinking high beam indicator light?

I switched to LED 3 or 4 months ago and haven't had any issue, however switching to HB doesn't add too much difference and I had to adjust the projection distance ALLOT before it was correct.

What LED bulb did you buy?

My Cyclops LED bulb works as advertised with no high beam issues.

it's a generic H4 LED bulb with the can bus module on it. it works fine, the only thing is that the high beam indicator blinks when I engage high beam. Just wondering if anyone else has had this.

thanks appliance. one of the decision criteria I used was to go with a fanless bulb, as I don't think there is enough clearance behind the housing to put dust cap on and still ensure good airflow.

oops - I did go with a fan bulb - I meant to say cyclops 3800 LED. After a full season with the fan, I've had no problems. Not sure the metal mesh ones are still for sale, but haven't heard of problems with them.

Her's a link for the evitek bulbs under another name: https://www.amazon.com/Alla-Lightin...522944613&sr=1-1-fkmr2&keywords=evitek+led+f2

This is for 2 bulbs. With the led's in the same place, and mimicking the dimensions of a standard filament, this should work without special alignment for the reflector. It also has a sharp low beam cut off.

If someone tries it - post the results. I've shimmed and aligned my current bulb so I'm happy with the output - ie: I can see enough of the road even when blinded by oncoming lights.

How did you adjust the "projection distance". My experience with these bulbs is that they never match the reflector design and just end up throwing light all over the place. Is this what you were correcting for?

You have to use a 20 gauge piece of wire to shim the top of the H4 connector to lower the bulb into the proper spot in the reflector so it focuses properly. IE: when you twist and lock the h4 put a piece of thin wire up top between the mount and the bulb mount.

Then I found you have to adjust the light housing itself down quite a bit. Look up DOT specs - something like 4' high at 25' away from the target.

Assuming you bought a bulb with a shield, you should have good cut off in low beam and a focussed light on the road. It has changed things for me. I put a link in a prior post that should be helpful for more info.

The new eviteck bulbs more closely emulate standard filament dimensions, so the shimming may not be required.
