Garmin GPS CANbus cable question

Will the Garmin Zumo 350/390 CANbus cable that works for a BMW also work for a Ducati, or do they have different CANbus plug heads? Anywhere I can buy a Ducati CANbus head and cut off the BMW head and connect the Ducati head?

I ask because I can't seem to find the cable for sale separately that comes with the Ducati Garmin nav. I can only find a Garmin Zumo cable that has a BMW CANbus head on the other end.

There is a dead ended half connector in place where you connect the GPS. Just unplug the connector and solder your GPS wires to it and then plug it back in.

I have GPS install instructions here:

I saw your thread earlier. Thanks! But which cables do I solder into? If I pull off the half connector coming from the bike, does it reveal just a black ground wire and red power wire and I solder into each accordingly? I ask because I thought there are 3 or 4 wires in a CANbus plug?

Its not can bus cable, its just a switch live and earth cable!!

Negative and positive connections

So you're saying that if I take off the plug tip that's in the headlight harness meant for the GPS that there will only be a power and ground wire going into it and I can just splice directly into those? If so, great! How do I get the plug tip off though? Do I just pull it hard and it will come off the wires, or do I need to cut it at the base of the plug tip and then strip the wires?

I heard from a Garmin specialist that the BMW Garmin sets are different from the usual sets and BMW bikes are specially adapted for these sets.
The Garmin 660 had a special cradle and the Garmin 390 can be placed inside the 1600 beemers dashboard.
I don't know if special wiring is required and/or available.
Isn't the canbus used for the trafic information option used by Garmin?

Maybe the Garmin forum can bring any help to this issue?

Regards.

Cool! Thanks, guys! That's the cable I already have... I just currently have the red wire plugged into the #4 fuse (KEY 2) for power and the black wire around a frame bolt for ground and some folks on here yapped at me that it was an unreliable installation that way and I should connect them into the plug meant for it behind the headlight. It's working great the way I have it and I took a 200 mile ride a couple days ago and no issues. But peer pressure... you know... so I might re-wire it into the plug behind the headlight.
