I was going to pull my carbon can too after the 600 mi service. The job doesn't look to bad. Figured I would use my long reach pliers I use for pulling hooks out of fish to access the vertical cylinder throttle body hose.

Got my hyper yesterday and haven't stopped smiling. Up to 50 miles now. I've been reading the issues with the California compliant carbon can in the forum and brought it up when I purchased the bike. Dealer said it was pretty standard for their mech to remove at 600 mile service.

Techs invited me back today while performing first service today. I asked if they had much trouble with the carbon can's. They replied "all the time!". I shared my concern about that and they replied; "Oh, yours already fell off. Must have happened on the way here..."! Just in time as I accidentally filled my tank to the rim. Trying to figure out the tank burping when filling is stressful.

UK models don't have the canister fitted, found out the other day when i went for a demo. ;-)

Have the same issue on my Hyperstrada. I have learned to stop fueling well below the neck and then I USUALLY don't have an issue. One time I refueled, started OK but died in traffic a few blocks away and then I had a hard time starting again. Very unsafe. Last week I had a new issue. Rode the bike on a hot day and parked it in the sun for several hours. Bike was very hot to the touch. Tank was about 1/3 full and yet the bike refused to start. Cranked for 5 minutes before it fired and then it backfired horribly for about 10 miles. Going to try pulling off the canister and see what happens. Very disappointing to be worried if the bike will start every time I get on it.

FWIW, I had the dealer remove the canister when I took possession of my Hyperstrada two weeks ago today. I've now put over 900 miles on it and often filled it with fuel to the very top. I have never had difficulty starting.
