HStrada or HMotard?

Greetings,

I have just joind this Hyperstrada Forum. For awhile I have been considering the Multistrada but considering how much I will be riding and also how I would be riding, and the power, plus this would be my first bike, I never finalized the deal. Actually I was even told bluntly not to buy the Multistrada as a first bike, and consider a junker to start. Well-this does not work for me, as I never owned anything even close to a junkie status. But anyway - with the arrival of the Hyperstrada - I am back into thinking. Therefore I have several questions:
1. Why would somebody consider a Hyperstrada when it is exactly the same bike as Hypermotard (except the bags and the vizor)?
2. Does the two extra items justifies the price difference (about $3K) more for Hyperstrada?
3. I am 6Ft and read several postings on individuals that sat on the Hyperstrada and felt uncomfortable, stating the bike is small and the seat's pitch is too high in the back.

Appreciate a positive feedback.

I would buy the Hypermotard.
Looks better! And the plusses of the Hyper are not worth the more money and you can upgrade the most with aftermarket parts for less money than Ducati wants to have.

So buy the Motard and
if you want bags - buy some for 180Dollar from sw-motech (with holders and so on - fit the hypermotard)
if you want a windscreen - buy some in the aftermarket (but imho you need no screen if you dont want to go more than 140km/h)
And the rest sucks anyways....Touring-seat is no one because you can not fu**ing change your riding position o_O
Center stand? For what? Buy a automatic-oiler and its cheaper than a center stand+chain-lube for 2 years and you dont have to spray your chain...
Higher Handlebar? Oh - great! Buy this for 30$ in the aftermarket -.-*

So you see - afterwards the strada is not worth her upgrades for a bike which looks less sexy than the motard...
I already regret to have bought the Strada...

Each to their own, I like the look of hyper but the practalicalities of the strada is what I am after. And I prefer the lower seat of the strada too, and I am 5foot10.

Damn, Manni. Didn't know you regretted it so much.

You have ask yourself one question: Is this going to be a toy or possible daily driver? If you plan on any extended commuting/touring above 60 mph, the Strada is the better choice. It is much cheaper to turn the Strada into a Motard than the other way around. You can search the thread on here where someone priced out kitting the M into and S (all factory equipment but the aftermarket doesn't make a lot of it yet).

>Bags - I like them. They work well for standard equipment. There will be better AM offerings some day but I won't pull the trigger unless I can swap the locks and they use the Strada's mounts.
>Screen - You'll also need the S fairing bracket and nobody offers AM screens yet. Again, around town, no biggie. Hwy speeds, you'll be wanting a screen.
>Seat - Most comfortable factory seat I've sat in and man agreed. I prefer to stand up rallye style when I get too cramped, but I can easily go 100 miles before needing a break.
>Center Stand - I'll never own a daily rider without one. I actually never but my bike on the side stand. It handles security, maintenance, cleaning, loading, etc. Many without centerstands eventually buy an axle stand, anyway. I don't see the need for one.
>Bar Height - meh. I was cool and young once and will never do that to my wrists again.

Again, versatility and comfort, with some sportiness is what drove a lot of us to purchase the Strada. The Motard is more focused and seat height was the ultimate decision for some.

Black Stealth 821 HM with some of the HS options

Hi all

I am in Brisbane, Australia and am about to pull the trigger on a new Hypermotard which will be an upgrade from a Suzuki DR650. After researching on this forum I found a lot of discussion on HS vs HM but I'm yet to find someone who has taken the exact option I am looking at: a black stealth motard with Ducati touring seat, touring windscreen, top case kit (inc passenger grab handles).

I do not need the other HS goodies like side bags, center stand, 12v outlets, sump guard etc. On my test ride I rode the strada because the dealer did not have a motard in stock and I was happy with comfort levels. The only thing I am worried about is the lower handlebar height on the motard. Once I swap to the journey seat (which is lower than the standard HM seat) I am wondering if the lower handlebar height will be noticeable compared to the strada or not that much different.

I'm keen to see if anyone has taken the option of buying a HM and fitting it out with the Ducati touring seat and larger screen. 95% of the time I will be commuting, with occasional weekend half days. I really want the touring seat for my comfort and the top box for commuting and to accommodate two-up with the wife as she will feel safer.

I don't really care too much about price. The motard with options ($19,796 AU) will be marginally cheaper than the strada with added top box ($20,990 AU). I realise the strada is better value for money and I could remove the side bags, but I really love the black stealth with red fame colour and the strada doesn't come in this colour (if it did I would have just bought the strada on the spot :D

Just wondering if anyone has taken this path and if so I would appreciate some real world pics and if you have any regrets about the lower handlebar height on the motard when journey seat fitted. I am 6'2 for reference. The dealer doesn't seem to want to budge on price so if anyone knows a dealer in Brisbane who likes to do a deal please let me know.

Yes - there is something known as "growing into it"...but does this really need to happen always, and does this really needs to happen to everybody? Is this really so hard to understand for thouse of you that have been riding for years...??? C'mon guys - anything positive and related to the posting!!!

If you feel confident enough to make it your first bike I say go ahead but be carefull, start with very easy rides and raise the bar progressively. Use small roads, avoid down town rides for the first months.

I've done it myself. My first bike is an Hyperstrada. I would recommand it all the way for a newbie that want to make the first step a big one. I've used the Urban mode setting for a while, made a few minor mistakes here and there but I'm here.

The motard and strada use the same handlebar. The strada adds some spacers to raise them. Personally, I hated the seating position on the motard, and my butt is small enough that I manage to slide back and forth on the strada seat quite a bit. I am 6'1" BTW. And if you tour two-up you will be wanting saddlebags sooner or later.

But, GTC, you revealed your actual reason for wanting the motard when you mentioned colors. Wonder why you have spent so much time trying to talk yourself out of it!
