Test rode a black Hypermotard this morning at my local big box store and found it very favorable!

Seat hight was a little taller than expected for my 32" inseam but it didn't put me off at all, sitting in the saddle placed me a little more forward than expected but farther back than the air cooled style motard and once i was under way it wasn't noticeable.

Engine noise wasn't anything unusual for a Duc so bonus there for the new engine design.

Seat height to foot peg ratio was good with a proper bent to my knee, not too little or too much. I circled the parking lot a few times to get a feel for the old girl before entering traffic anticipating lots of pull upon acceleration. Was in Touring mode and did not notice any twitchy throttle anywhere or in any mode even at slow speed. Acceleration was nice but not as strong as anticipated even in sport mode but you must remember this is a new not broken in motor so things will only get better and the grins will get bigger. Exhaust note was pleasant not overly loud for those not interested in hearing their Duc's. Breaks were strong and comforting, i was not able to engage the ABS so cannot comment on that. Cable activated clutch was not even noticeable the fact that it was a cable would surprise most with its smoothness. Slipper clutch did its job on some hard downshifting and did not allow the rear to skid. Found it to be very light and nimble as expected for handling it really feels like a big dirt bike which is exactly the intent! The turn signals have standard bulbs installed not LEDs which make them less expensive and easily upgradable if so desired. Mirrors could be a little bigger and wider but thats just compared to what I'm used to. All in all its a very favorable package and I eagerly await my Strada to arrive so we may begin our lives together!

Swoon!:D

Thanks for the initial impression! Seeing your picture though, I think I'm going to have to wait for this bike as a second bike and not as a #1 bike simply because I'm 6'3" 250lbs and me and the Mrs. will not be able to pull all day rides on the Hyper.

Awesome!

I sat a Hyperstrada at the Ducati Booth at MotoGP in Austin, and loved the seat height. I'm looking forward to riding one in the days ahead!

WOW, that black is purty with the red frame. Big dirt bike is exactly what I was thinking! Nice!

*Repost from other thread*

demo was a blast. Bike has telepathic handling. Very neutral, super flickable. It did dive pretty hard under breaking and I thought the bars were a bit buzzy at speed, although I haven't spent a lot of time in the saddle lately and don't have much comparison. Grips felt like mush old bmx jobs and could be a bit thicker. Plenty of power and very comfortable riding position. Found out how good wind screen is when I drove screenless bike immediately after. I couldn't throw a leg over without kicking outter bag. Seat height was perfect and it feels just the right size under my 5'8"/180lb frame.

I messed with the drive modes a little. I started off in Touring and the throttle was very responsive. Sport was uber-responsive. Didn't touch urban as it was a country road route. The single selector/turn signal fob works fine with the single button but I think they could have made the turn signal a 4-way stick and probably helped in navigating the menus a bit.

Just gorgeous in person. There was a white one in the showroom with a sold sticker on it and for a brief moment I thought I was going to be leaving on a new Strada. Alas, it was some one above me on the list. Dude is almost 8 hrs away in Tallahassee and can't even pick it up till next weekend...I think he should have gave it to me as I was ready to sign and drive. "Next week" is still the estimate on delivery.

Drove the Diavel next. What a beast! That should have been named Monster. Wheel lifted during 2nd gear roll-on from 40mph. Think I walked on the 848 next to me a few times. Really cool, comfortable bike but its a bit of a stretch to the bars. Oh, that massive rear tire likes to keep whatever track it's on when you twist the stupid-grip. Think I saw the traction control light a couple times during full twist in 2nd. Really liked the secondary digital display with nice graphics and gear indicator. Kinda wish Strada had gear indicator but that's only because I don't know the bike well enough yet to feel what gear it's in. That will change very soon.

I'll say the demo bike I rode felt like it was rode very hard. I didn't look at the mileage but it may have even been a traveling demo. It was very difficult to find nuetral and i had to really mash it into first a few times. I thought cable clutch was fantastic; much better than Diavel, which was heavy and lifeless (assuming hyd clutch).

I know my hand will man up and stop going numb so quick after getting some miles under my belt but I did think the bars were a tad buzzy and Diavel's were noticeably calmer.

Front dive can probably be fixed with some pre-load adjustment in the forks. Oh, didn't have the balls to mess with center stand as I have never used one and know they require a little technique to rock and set.

Dealer demo'd luggage removal. Just twist key lock on top/fwd of bracket and yank. Very easy to get into while mounted.

Probably a bit of a harsh review but over all it was a confidence inspiring and very fun bike to clip along on. I'm buying one regardless and just wanted a very honest, open-minded ride experience. Also haven't ridden much in past, oh, 12 years and was a bit nervous as I rolled out on to busy street with 8 hooligans on rented bikes that all cost over $13K.

My impressions after 100 miles yesterday and 320 miles today. Bottom line is that it "just feels right". Best stock seat I have ever had. Point and shoot drivability. Completely planted in some serious bumps/frost heaves. This is the first gas cap I have had that you have to remove and place somewhere (up on top of the gas pump?). I used the rear powerlet to plug in my iPhone, and then put my iPhone in the left pannier zipped together where the wire went in, phone was fully charged all day. Worked perfectly and had Pandora music and a couple phone calls to the wife through my Sena headset. Just a perfect 70* day. I topped of the fuel after the first 50 or so miles. After fill up and riding pretty aggressive, (I am breaking in by winding it up and then letting off to allow engine braking), the low fuel light came on at 100 miles. I stopped and filled up with 2.7 gallons. Next fuel light was at 125 miles and fill up was at 135 miles with 2.8 gallons. I was trying to set the clock time, the menu seems to be less than intuitive (or i'm stupid). Choosing the different modes is easy, but once you get deep in the menu...well, there is lot's there to mess with. Everything can be custom setup the way you prefer. I am more than happy with this choice. Think I may take the day off tomorrow, gonna be another nice day here. The dealer will be surprised when I am sitting in his parking lot Tuesday morning for my 600 mile service. :)

Nice report and beautiful shots, Bill! 420 miles in a weekend...ironhorse!

So can I get your honest opinion on bar vibes and brake dive? I see you have a nice Bimmer for comparison. Think this is a cross country bike for someone with the stones?

Oh, and I got a little lost in your fuel tracking. Is that about 48 mpg? Was that being easy on the twist grip or giving it some tug?

Jealous...

135 miles and 2.8 gallons is little over 48 mpg. Sounds pretty good during breakin, with up and down speeds.

So how were the 320 miles, comfortable and ready for another? Btw are you using reg or premium gas?
Thanks,
Frank

I never noticed any vibrations in the handlebar. There is some dive in the front, but it is not excessive considering the long travel in the forks. Smooth braking makes it less abrupt. Would I go cross county on this bike...yes if I had to. Given a choice, I would go with a MultiStrada (or my Bimmer). The only thing that bothered me was my bum knee. The knee angle is more than on my BMW and the BMW has highway pegs to stretch. The good thing on the Hyper, is the taller seat height allows you to dangle your legs without touching ground for stretching. It's also very easy to stand up on the pegs or sit on the passenger seat for a mid-ride stretch. (I am 5'11' and 180 lbs).

My mileage varied from 37 mpg during heavy handed break in, to 48 mpg during normal spirited riding. These numbers can be off slightly. I noticed during fueling, I had thought I had overfilled (fuel in the tank neck) but, a little wiggle on the bike, and some air bubbles, the fuel went back down to below the neck. So, I don't know if I filled to the exact level each time.

The 320 miles were really comfortable. Really surprised with the seat comfort. I could definitely do another 320 today, and I'm no spring chicken at 53 years.

Funny you ask about fuel. I neglected to check the manual for fuel requirements, so I just shot in the middle and ended up with 89 octane once and 91 the other two times. When I got home and reviewed the manual, it says "Use fuel with a minimum octane rating of 90 (RON+MON)/2".

Thanks for the report Wild Bill!

I to did not notice any buzzy handle bars nore divey front end under hard breaking didnt seam to bottom out the front suspension.

I just took a test ride on the Hyperstrada and have to completely agree with Wildbill. I enjoyed it so much I purchased it. I'm trading in my Triumph Explorer which weighs almost 200 lbs more. I'm 5-8, 165lbs. It fit me well. I have to wait until a Red one comes in for delivery.

Thanks Bill! It's nice to know. My carbed F650 gets around 45 too. But 49hp. No wheelies for my 58 yr old bod. Now 110hp, hummmmmmm.

Just picked up my Hyperstrada last night and after only 120 KM or so, I know I've found my dream bike. I can't sing this bike's praises enough. The following are my thoughts [I'm 6.0 feet and 180 Lbs]

-It's compact, but not cramped at all
-The seat is firm but comfortable
-Power is very linear [I stuck with "Touring" mode], with strong torque. Unless you also own a Panigale, the power will impress you.
-Handling is - to use he much abused phrase - telepathic
-Very neutral seating position, but forward enought to feel completely in control
- Feels feather light, but absorbs the rough roads nicely
- Front end is a little "dive-y" under heavy braking, but I'm not plannig to race the bike, so I think it's fine.
- Bags are nicely made, roomy, come off easily and the mounting hardward is unobtrusive.
- fit and finish are jewel like. This machine will turn heads.
- fuel range seems good, but I haven't had a chance to really try that yet.

ride reports...

I wish you blokes would stop already with the photos and glowing reports! I have a red H'strada on order (due by yesterday by the way, but no sign of it yet) but sick of waiting bought a new BMW R1200R back in Feb. Am really undecided as to whether I now even want to go for a demo ride when the H'strada finally arrives.... what a dilemma to be in!

Worried and sleepless L of S :mad::mad:
