Initial ride impressions

Thanks for all the great reports!!! I am so excited to get my red hyperstrada....called Hawaii dealer today...still no word regarding delivery date? However, when it comes, I will be sure to post pictures of it at a beautiful beach in Hawaii!

Touring

Until a week ago, I had a 2009 Multistrada 1100s that I adored, and that I rode across country every June. It got demolished, so I'm ooking for a replacement, and am considering the HyperStrada. You guys have any impressions about long-distance touring on it?

I'm a little concerned about the non-waterproof bags, smaller tank, windshield, and current lack of options, but I'd love to hear if you guys think its a reasonable option. The Multi 1200 is a great ride, but it's just so damn big. The hyperstrada feels closer to the size of my old 1100.

Sorry to hear about your Multi. There's a new owner on the forum that did over 400 miles his first weekend with the bike and said he could have done a lot more.

Bags are water resistant and both come with a full size water-tight bag; there is a larger windscreen option from Ducati's store; larger tank will probably be offered as a company already offers an expanded tank for older model Motards. As for lack of options, I think selectable power modes/ABS/traction control/18K service interval for 13K is pretty fair. If paying 6K more for a Multi, I would hope for more bells & whistles.

It's also throttle by wire, so we can probably expect a cruise control option pretty soon.

I rode my 2010 streetfighter (1098cc) 80 miles to the dealer in Denver to pick up my Hyperstrada. I can tell you that I was VERY impressed on my way back from the dealership. The strada is SO much more confortable and user-friendly than the SF. Of course the engine doesn't pull as hard as the SF, but it is more than enough to have fun on. I LOVE THIS BIKE!!! Even in the twisties, I think the strada is more fun. For someone who grew up riding dirt bikes, the strada is a prefect bike.

I plan on getting some more dirt-worthy tires for a long dual-sport trip. Any ideas? TKC 80? It's hard to find something that will fit the wide rear rim. I setup the "urban" mode for dirt roads: DTC zero, ABS off and throttle response to low. Would you do something different?

It was cold here yesterday, and it would have been nice to know that the bike came with heated grips! My salesperson had ZERO knowledge of the bike.

Yes!!
We need to get together!
TCK 80s are about all we have, the new Karoo3 will fit the back as well once deliverys begin and the Avon Distenzsa will also fit for more road use.....

Post up some pictures!

Took the day off today and did another 310 miles. I now have 730 miles, and have my service appointment first thing Friday AM. Having the time of my life!!!

Complaints:
1. Panniers are a PITA to get off. Maybe I just need learn proper procedure?
2. Kick stand is awkward. It seems my boot calf gets caught on the foot peg. Again procedure?
3. Wish it had a fuel gauge. Not necessary, but nice to have.
4. Wish it had a gear indicator. Not necessary, but nice to have.

I had an old Dowco Fastrax Tail Bag. It hooked on to the seat and rack easily and looks pretty good. Great alternative when you want to travel without the panniers. Picture below>

The 696 has a fuel warning light and then another trip meter starts to count the miles since the light came on. I suspect the Strada has similar.

As for the dirt bike comment, I'm all in! Can't wait to ride this thing! Thanks for ride reports.

What it does have:
Once the low fuel light comes on, it reads out distance you have since traveled. It appears that there is about ~1.3 gallons left once the fuel light comes on. So...~50 miles till empty depending on the right wrist. Kinda crazy omission seeing as the computer tells you just about everything else. Ducati fuel gauges have been notoriously sketchy in the past, so I guess they decided to just eliminate it. Just set your trip meter at fill up to keep track.

Great ride

Picked up today. I got the GPS, tail bag, and Termo exhaust. Exhaust sounds great. The GPS was installed by dealer and nice to have up front wired into machine, no more dangling wires with cigarette lighter plug like I had on V-Strom. Machine handles great. I had same problem with kickstand as noted above, the footpeg is in the way of pushing it down with your foot and the kickstand does not pop forward which would help. Center stand great. The powerlets are in great places for riding gear and the one in bag to charge equipment when in bags. The waterproof system for bags is fine by me.
I had two situations where I downshifted to get a neutral slip, a few empty revs and then I pulled clutch in and shifted and it went back to 3rd, where I wanted to go, I was in 4th. I have never had a slipper type clutch so I do not know if that is a problem with slippers sometimes. I have a flashing red light on dash that the book says is over rev. I did get over 6k when I had the no gear situation but only a bit probably. Tires are great and red really is a great color. I will continue break in and then go to Chuckwalla later this month for some track time with Jason Pridmore Star School.

I wonder are you guys useing your toe to acuate the side stand or your heal?

Bill try it for us with your toe. I know I use the heel on my Cagiva but have to use my toe on the wifes Monster...

I had the same problem with the kick stand. Now I look down carefully before I use it. It worked fine with a jeans i.s.o. motorsuite.

@usmcstrada : I had also a few times a red flashing ligth on the dash but it's not always from high revs after a falls neutral but mostley from a working tractioncontrol!

I don't like that logic at all. Flashing Red should mean impending catastrophic damage to bike/person. Low traction should be flashing yellow, like all automobiles and even the Diavel I tested. I think they crammed too many functions into that center red warning light.

Just got home from New Brunswick 14 hour day took new bike off trailer to show off DEAD 12km , Wife wanted to cry me to . The BMW I gave them will start for 100 years . All winter I waited for this dreamed about it last nite . I'm lost in disappointment I will never trust it and will always hate it . Ffff Ducati

I too am awaiting a red Hyper. The dealer told me on Sat that I was next in line. Louisville is a little busy this weekend, so it may well be the following week before I see my red beauty.
