Insurance Doubling

Uninsured Motorist coverage is just another parachute option that levies a flat $250 fee, instead of your standard deductible ~ if you don't have it, you pay standard deductible. At close to an extra $100/yr for this option, it's not even worth the statistically low chance you'll use it.

I got various quotes anywhere from $600 to $2500 per year. Call an insurance broker. Also, you get more discounts if you lump all your vehicles together.

When I called that insurance company with the annoying lady in white and told them I was at the dealer and I needed them to take my KTM Duke off the policy and add the Hyperstrada, my insurance premium jumped from $450 per year to $650 per year. I told the lady on the phone that its a HyperSTRADA. She re-entered the VIN and her system showed HyperMOTARD. I said no, I have a strada... it's a touring bike! It's safer than the Duke, it has ABS, traction control and luggage! Her system said what her system said and I guess I'll need to shop around. I HATE the whole insurance industry.

That's who I dumped. Got $330/yr when I purchased last April and they tried doubling to what your quoting this year, stating they hadn't categorized my bike correctly when I joined. I volleyed a bit and, in the end, all Ducati's are considered "Sport Bikes" to them. I just think their software finally caught up.

Try the company with Pedro Cerrano as their spokesman. They got me back in the 3's. If you mention Jobu you get an extra 10% off.

I have USAA, probably the best out there, but they don't insure bikes. They push you to Progressive, which gave me an obscene quote last year.

Haven't tried AAA.

give it a shot.. doesnt hurt to just shop around. I had usaa and figured I must be getting the best rates because they say "we know what it means to serve" etc. etc. moved to texas and usaa did not cover the bikes any more. progressive way too expensive, aaa had a very competitive rate for the bikes and the cars that usaa just could not meet.. I did give them the opportunity. aaa doesnt directly insure the bikes in texas either, but the partner company is great.
give it a shot and be wary of usaa.. it is a HUGE company and they have the bottom line at heart.. just like any other.. not saying they are totally bad but my wife used to work at the corporate office and when their employees got an 18 percent bonus last year but they cant drop my insurance rates to match a competitor then something is up.. just sayin

My renewal has gone down, only a small amount but it's still for two bikes and its
£230 fully comp.

bumping an old thread. just got the quote from allstate on my new hyper. 466 per year. my street triple was 188. honda cbr 250r was 77 per year.

Double check they even have the HyperStrada listed and categorized. I remember calling around a couple years ago and I think Geico didn't have the bike listed, so just defaulted to Italian Sportbike status.

Not a bargain in the US.

Oh, and all Ducati's are considered "Sport" bikes in the insurance world...

For my experience, I don't think that is the case.
Here in Tx my Multistrada cost 550.00 per year and a CBR1000 I had was 800 from Geico and a ridiculous 2k from Progressive.

The HS is costing me approx 425 or about the same as my R1200GS.

Edited, all same coverage @ 1k deduct for Collision, 500 for Comprehensive

I was with Progressive for years with premiums in the $300/yr range (full coverage) for bikes such as ZX636, Z1000, Concours 1400 and when I called to put my HS on, they wanted to jump it to $900/yr. Their reasoning was just because it was a Ducati. I got on line and got the same coverage level with Geico for $350/yr. I secured the policy and dumped Progressive. No rhyme or reason... just my personal experience. Go figure.

I'm curious what dollar amounts your deductibles are in those policies? Mine is $100, thinking that's way too low? My policy is 660 a year.

My Hyper is on a stand alone State Farm policy for $430/year with a $500 deductible. My four cars (mine, wife's, two daughters, all full coverage) is 3,300/year with a $500 deductible from Wawanesa, a Canadian company who only offers coverage on the US west coast. They dropped MC coverage years ago, which is too bad, as they're a great insurance company!

Short answer: Call your agent and ask what you might save by raising that number. Assess your (and maybe that great BF's) personal risk tolerance and go for it.

Long answer: If that's for liability and comp, it's a lot less than the $1000 deductible we have with State Farm. If you often park in a dodgy neighborhood, that would be way too high. Our garage is fairly secure, and I don't commute so the risk of theft is small. We pay less than $300 per year for the HS, but we have four bikes, two cars, a pickup and our home with them. The discounts add up fast. But I gave up on M/C collision coverage after a couple of bent wheels on my Triumph. State Farm quadrupled the rate on my pickup after I got bad advice from my old agent. Now my motto is "I break it, I fix it." And in 50 years of riding I've never had a bike stolen or had to pay any deductible on a bike accident. We have $500 for collision on the cars, and both of them have been hit in the last six months... But not our fault, so we got it back. And we have zero deductible on the four wheelers for comp, as we have to replace windshields a lot around here.

hahaha I wish I could pay $600 a year...try $900 a year...and thats bundled with my car....***** a fkin rip off....

Allstate - $450/year, thats Gold coverage with GAP and the fancy **** where they buy you a brand new bike if it gets totaled.

I also have my truck and 3 houses insured with them, so that may be why its less. My 2008 Hypermotard 1100 was $800/year back when I had it - solo policy.
