Lager touring windscreen

Great product. Put one on my '06 Buell XB12, the turbulence with the little stock screen was awful. It made the airflow so still that with earplugs in I could not tell how fast I was going on the highway - 60 or 90 mph, felt just the same. Had to keep one eye on the speedo! Amazing.

My wife has an '05 SV650 (naked), and complained that she had trouble holding on at 70+ mph. Same solution, now she is happy. Check out the website, they are located in SoCal.

The physics of the Lip's action is that it smooths the flow (hence the name); I note that the stock 'Strada screen does this to some extent due to the gap at the bottom. If you don't mind looking at it, I'm sure that Lip would make the airflow much less turbulent. These guys test every one on each specific bike to optimize the design. It fastens with velcro buttons, no drilling needed.

Usual disclaimers - no affiliation, etc. etc.

zippy, did the LIP on your Buell fasten the same way? Just wondering how those buttons look if you want to remove the LIP for poking around.

Got the Puig clip on extension today and it took about ten minutes to put on. Its not attractive but it is functional. It can be set on several different levels. I put it on its highest setting and it definitely made a difference. Directs the wind higher over my head and breaks it up where its not so direct. I'll try to load some pics of it. Its works well on the touring screen and I can imagine it would be useful on the stocker too. Its $120 and im satisfied with it.

Yes the velcro buttons are obvious. But I never bothered to take the lip off, save for bike washing. I got used to the smoothed airflow and the smoke tint helps the looks.

Got the Puig clip on in today and it took about ten minutes to put on. It made a marked difference by directing the air to the top of my helmet. It adds weight to the screen so it bounces a bit more in the wind but no problems. It runs $120 but does its job. Not real attractive but its functional and thats what i was going for. I'll try to post some pics.

Sorry for the double post. Didnt think the first went through. Maybe I should cut down on the crown and coke for New Years Eve.

Any pics?

Thanks for posting the pics Cobra, is that a standard or 'larger' touring screen you have?

Sorry- shouldve mentioned that its the larger touring screen. Im really not a big fan of wind hitting me in the upper body or head at 80+ mph. The less wind the better for me. Im going to throw this out there and see what those who read this think. It seems to me that the sketchiness of the front end has to do with the soft front suspension but also the air hitting the upper body and head making the front end lighter and more prone to float. It may be just me but its something ive noticed.

Spot on, Cobra. I mentioned in an older handling post that I used a suspension troubleshooting tip at 80+ mph once. If you give just slightest tug on either bar individually at speed, you can feel the front end so light it is almost floating. Very twitchy which is why I experience a slight wobble from time to time at very high speed when shifting hard or changing lanes.

This will only get worse the more bags/gear we pile on the back end.

Solution lies in adjustable dampening, which we lack. Heavier weight fork oil helps a little. The fork cartridge inserts are still a little too rich for my blood. I'd rather source somebody's used Ohlins when we determine what fits.

Gatdammit, try adding a few mm of preload and a couple of clicks of rebound at the rear. I had a similar feeling and that fixed it. 5mm and three clicks out is what I ended up with.

I rode with rear very stiff initially - maybe 5 clicks from full lock and 1/2 turn on the screw. Still got scary wobble but I'm talking when I was getting on at 100+ (indicated). Twice I got nasty slow wobble taking on ramp bank aggressively, and I really don't think it lies in the adjusters but going beyond the bikes intended limits. I do normally ride with 10-20 lbs in the bags and I weigh 185.

I don't fault very (?) high speed instability from a Motard with luggage. But, some of the issues could be dampened with a fully adjustable front end.

Ah, there's a difference - I run the DP tankbag but the saddlebags are in the box with the mounting plate. So I already have a more forward weight bias. I think that this has more effect on stability than the forks, although you could experiment with puling them up a bit in the clamps.

I do an occasional high speed 'test run,' and my bike is stable up to an honest buck-thirty. But I tuck as much as I can, meaning that I crouch down a bit and hold on tighter. I can't get my helmet behind the screen, but the bike is still accelerating at that speed...:)
