Michelin Pilot Road 4 (PR4) Tyres

I know these have been mentioned in threads here already, but after putting a couple of hundred miles on these tyres I needed to just have a little rave about them.

Absolutely AMAZING tyres, I've always been a fan of Michelin hoops but these are truly stunning and, IMO, a massive upgrade from the Scorpion Trails (at least for the kind of city/country riding I do).

Great grip, great feedback, and so confidence inspiring - I just feel that much safer with these. If any of you guys have been on the fence about trying them - go for it, you won't regret it!!

I just took my PR4's off after a wonderful time with them. The last 1000 miles with them was not so good - partially due to an odd wear pattern and partially due to the thinner, harder tread losing a lot of grip. I ended up getting 5,300 miles out of them.

I've got 5000ks on my RP4s and they are just so much better than the Scorpions....most of my riding is on B roads in country areas. Far better in the wet and tip in occurs so much faster....

Purchased the normal RP4s and not the 'Trail', wear seems even at this stage and I expect to see around 10-12000ks out of them. I mainly ride in touring mode.

Interesting to hear about your longevity test with them kuksul - I was expecting 8k out of these at a minimum. Did you get the 'Trail' version by any chance? I had considered it for this style of bike but thought a softer compound wouldn't be that necessary..

Standard PR4. I ride rather aggressively and 99% on twisties. No straights or highways.

Good to know ...Ive had pilot 3 before and really liked them
Have to say ....ive really enjoyed the Scorps though ...got 11k on them now and i recon at least another 1500klm left on them

Will try the P4's next after hearing these comments

I have worn out 2 sets of PR4's since the OEM Scorpions wore out. Actually, 3 rears and 2 fronts. Loved the way they performed in all conditions. I ride lots of twisties but often involves some straight line roads to get to the fun parts. The rears have averaged about 9-10000kms and the fronts about 14000. Fronts had lots of tread left but were getting pretty scalloped. Currently am running some Metzeler Sportec 7RR's that i got a good deal on. They seem pretty good in the dry but have not yet experienced wet pavement with them.

I recently went from PR4's to Dunlop Q3's. Completely different tire. The Q3's stick like glue no matter what. The PR4's are super predictable and handle great but definitely break away earlier. Simple matter of rubber softness. The PR4's do provide a more precise handling possibly due to a stiffer carcass. Great tires all around.

Managed about 3500 miles out of the standard scorpions, switched to bridgestone T30s, they are like night and day, such a good tyre. Had PR3s on my last bike and thought they were good so maybe i'll try pr4s or 5s even in the future.

I would hope so. You're comparing a track/street tire to a sport touring tire.

I might try the Pirelli Angel GT tires after my set of PR4s wear out.

hmm... if I do go with Michelin next, I am currently leaning more towards the Power SuperSport Evo... anyone have experience with these?

Also, as far as Pirelli goes, has anyone feedback on the newer version of the Scorpions, which is called Trail II? It is supposedly based on the Angel GT's, another one that people seem to like.

Hmmm, just clocked a bit over 7000ks and the Scorpians are well on the way out. I am heading to Phillip Is for the Moto GP in October so will be looking to throw a new set of something on just before then. Currently thinking about MP4 as my wife's bike(MT07) has those, Pirelli Angle GT or a set of Conti's as I used to run them on my Beemer. Just another first world problem to add to the list I guess. Cheers.
