MV Agusta Rivale

No!

Will not buy a first model year big twin KTM they have notorious design problems and take several years to hammer them out. Same said for the 1190 Adventure.

I am waiting to see what the 1200 Monster has to offer...

I spoke to soon....

This segment is really taking off. What class are they labeling this bike? Sport-Touring, Adventure, etc.?

Yes, sport touring. One write up said it makes no pretenses for off road use with its 17" cast wheels, although a lot of bikes make do with those. The rear is a 190 so I don't know if the D616 or Scorpion Trail would work right on it. The Lusso, or Luxury model, will have semi active suspension, built in bluetooth and gps, lots of fancy stuff. I have to imagine it will be every bit of 18 grand. I'm bummed, was really hoping for something with some off road chops. The Rivale is supposed to be sub 400 lb, but the Lusso will tip the scales at 455, so no lighter than the Hyper. I guess if I really did want to downsize from the Uly, it would either be a Hyperstrada, which is looking more and more like a bargain, or an FZ-09 with D616s on it, but that wouldn't have the touring goodies or the suspension travel to make a real adventure bike. If the Versys had about half again as much power and torque, it would be competitive.

I test rode one. It is a bit of a hooligan so maybe several core supermoto guys will like it or those who prefer the previous version of the hyper.
For its weight is well over powered! You are on 3rd before half the rpm range (around 13000) and you're well above speed limits here. Compared to hyper it asks to be driven more supermoto meaning pushing bars down where the hyper not so much. You're close to the front like the old hyper. Quick shifter is addictive! Works wonders, the engine is super elastic pulls from any gear. Mirrors are not my taste overall look is great. Has some electic gizmos such as set up speed limit, disconnect shifter and will have abs. On acceleration is more nervous which can be fun for some.
Since I was looking for a smaller bike to my Diavel I didn't even thought about this one and well it is a bike for limited uses IMO. So I went for the hyper which suited my needs better. Hope you find this little review useful.

Is it a push-button shifter or like air assisted lever and no need for clutch? These used to be pretty easy mods for sport bikes back in the day. Is that still the case?

So they liked it! Prefer the Duc a little more and the fueling was spot on with the MV which is good I know they have had problems getting it right.

I'm liking the new 2014 MV Agusta Turisimo Veloce more, very tidy package.
the Luso variant comes with sat nav, heated grips. quickshifter, semi-active suspension, cruise control and panniers

I had a Lighting Long since 2006. A Uly without the heavy subframe and bags. I sold it this year, bought the 'Strada, and have no regrets.

The Buell would cook my legs in the summer, as the fuel pump keeps fuel circulating in the frame. It had the trickest chassis on the street, and fully adjustable, high quality Showa suspension. Maintenance was nil, thanks to the hydraulic lifters. Oil, filters, and tires were about it.

But I hit the rev limiter waaay too often. It weighed 30 pounds more than my 'Strada, and had a less HP. For off road, you will like the programmable ABS and TC. It's hard to believe, but the Duc has lots more acceleration in the midrange. There is much less engine inertia, she really wants to rev. Take a test ride, you might be hooked. I advise you start on "Touring," though!

The large radius brakes on those late model Buell's were just spectacular. Did they actually work better than traditional set ups?

I'm hoping that Ca Cycleworks makes another 6 gallon tank for the current hyper series, but if not I'll probably be buying a MV Agusta Turisimo Veloce or Aprilia caponord for a bit more range in a few years. Ideally I want all the technology that's in the 2014 Aprilia caponord 1200 in a Moto guzzi Stelvio NTX at the same price <16k. A 8.5 gallon adventure bike with cruise control and semi-active suspension, yes please.

I'm hoping that Ca Cycleworks makes another 6 gallon tank for the current hyper series, .

I sent them an email middle of the year about this and they said no, there wasnt any need for more than 4 gallons.

You might hit them up again to show interest.

Man, they're getting a lot of stink out of 800cc's.

Pretty striking bikes but couldn't daily drive that aggressive of bar profile and I'm not a huge fan of the severely bobbed tail look.

Num num num.....

The big thing seems to be that this is art to be on a wall versus an actual bike to be ridden. And I can see that...
