Hi Guys, finally picked up my Hyperstrada yesterday. Apart from a brief affair with an aprilia when I first starter riding, I’ve only had Jap bikes for the last 10 years. Fancied a change ready for a week of touring I’ve already read through so much useful info on here - so when my first ride on the bike left me stopping for a second tank of fuel, I knew exactly what was wrong when she wouldn’t start up afterwards...
Anyway, used Denso starter from a Diavel on the way. Is this what the life of a Ducati owner looks like?

I look forward to some good advice and a few obligatory oil discussions...

Hi Rob,

That didn't take long for your initiation! Let us know how you get on. Oh, and earlier Ducatis of the 2000s, like my ST4, are brilliant and as reliable as a post and completely without the foibles of the newer stuff in my experience. So much for progress...

Welcome and congrats, Rob. Don't forget to give her a saucy Italian name.

Can't go wrong swapping for a Denso starter. However, there is a possible vapor-lock issue that some had after fueling up. I believe it was related to the emissions canister, which is 3 lbs of ballast you should ditch at your earliest convenience. I'd search "won't start" and look for an older thread that happens at a gas station.

I'll check that out Gat thanks! It was a fairly laboured crank anyway, but after fuelling up it cranked even slower and the dash flickered on and off whilst it was cranking. If it wasn't for the forum (and the on board battery voltage check) I would have presumed battery on it's way out. Instead I left it for 30 minutes and she did start again. Still very slow cranking.

When you say saucy italian name the first thing that came to mind was 'Dolmio'.

And being a UK bike, it shouldn't have an emissions canister, so that's one problem us Brits are spared!
