Road 5 & Angel GT II

Got just over 5000 miles on the Road 5's so far, still plenty of life left in them, no signs of squaring off, couple of track days and hard road riding

I've got about 2500 miles on my PR5's and they still look brand new. All other tires I've had on this bike (OEM's, PR3's) really started showing wear around the 3K mile mark. I do a lot of highway and there's no flat spot yet.

I can't say how much better in the rain they are than my old PR3's. I never lost traction in those that I recall but my bike is very planted and stable even in heavy downpours. I will say they are much harder to break loose with DTC off than my PR3's. I've also noticed that even though I take my money sweepers faster than on the PR3's, I still have a little chicken stripe left on my weak side (right) and the strong side bitter edge isn't nearly as scrubbed as the old model. I'm no botanist, but, I think that means they have better traction than the PR3's.

Resurfacing this thread. I'm at the end of my Rosso IIIs and looking to something with longer life as I hope to do some longer trips this summer / fall. I've pretty much only run Pirelli on this bike and have few complaints, they handle well, provide traction all through their life and recover predictably on the occasion something causes them to slip. That said, maybe I'm missing out. I've been thinking about the Metzler Roadtec and the Road 5s as well. Goal would be to maximize mileage without sacrificing traction on rough, twisty backroads. I suspect any of these three will perform pretty well, but based on this thread anyway, it sounds like the Road 5s are great.

Either the GTII or the RP5 will serve you well. Sport touring tires have pushed the envelope of motorcycle tires to new heights. No need to buy track oriented tires.

The rear of my PR5 still looks very fresh at nearly 3K miles. Majority of my commute is hwy and it still has original shape. Very good braking and traction. I'll also note that it was very good cold. I hit a roundabout with a weird uneven section just after leaving my house that used to cause some nervous slips on my PR3's. Even during the winter it would grip this section very well cold.

Metzeler Road tech 01 I,m in my second set of tires. The firt set lasted 8k miles . Great grip dry and wet.
There is a new updated model, I,m waiting to try them.

I'm still on these road 5's. They are long wearkg tires with great grip. Depending on price I will go with these again or the M9RR(I always loved the M7RR and would like to see the evolution )

Just got the GTII's. Did about 100 miles-Feels more planted than the Scorpions in turns. The bike turns in steady and keeps its course

So after my angel gts, I went with the Rosso 3s. It was a very good tire. I liked everything about it. Solid 4/5. Rear ended around 5k. Front was still ok for another 1-2k. I was going to get the rosso 3s again but I wanted to change things up. I went with the Power 5s this time and went straight to the circuit. I did 2 sessions and they felt pretty good, very soft tire. Grip is good, feedback is ok, hard to tell but turn in might be a little slow? Ill need some more time of these for a better review. I dont expect them to last that long. Similar to the Rosso 3s or less. My friend took his road 5s to a faster circuit for 2 days and they were good. They wore fine, grip was good but it took quite awhile to get enough heat in them. S__85884933.jpg

So far, my PR5's have the best wear of any tire I've had on my 2013 (Skorpion Trails, PR3's). I'm approaching 3K miles with no visible sign of flat spots or excessive wear.

I don't track them so can't really speak to heat buildup. However, I feel they have very good cold traction and give me a lot of confidence when I leave the neighborhood. From my hoon experience on them, I'd definitely track them in a non-competitive environment.

Ended up with the PR5. We'll see how it goes. Turn is feels easier than the Rosso IIIs but then those tires were shot and the front was very V shaped.

That outer rubber is sticky! I get those GP-style gummie worms when I roast it around town. Softest compound I've ever owned. Longevity is amazing after 3K mostly slab miles.

resurrecting this thread, as I'm looking to replace my Scorpions.
Anyone regret their PR5 purchase or not as enthused as they thought they would be with them?

Best tyres I've had on my hyper, most mileage I've had out of a rear too incl. A few track days. Put them on my triumph thruxton r as well now.

I'm still on the same set I put on back in June with around 5k on them now (I think, should have made a note of the mileage as my middle aged brain seems to be holding into data like a sieve holds water). I'd guess I'll probably be able to get another 2 - 3k out of the rear and I've not noticed any change in traction between new and now. Very confidence inspiring tires to say the least, I do notice a little squirm if I'm riding aggressive and engaging the slipper on a downshift, a better rider would probably be able to take advantage of that to back it in, I just chuckle in my helmet and keep on rolling.

6K miles on my PR5's and they look like they have 4K more. Way more traction than my PR3's. I used to be able to spin my PR3 on a certain section of very slick road for as long as I stayed on the throttle. My 5's will slide till about 5K rpm and then bite and launch. I will say I could get my 3's over to the bitter edge easier, but that doesn't necessarily mean they handled better. Think there's a lot of tire science stuff that says the 5s could still be working as good despite not getting all the way to the edge. I don't have any times or speed gates to go on.
