So, I might be in the market for a cafe-style town bike.

The Sport Classics seem to be going up in price & value... a Used GT1000 is right around the out-the-door price of a new Scrambler. ($11-13k)

Do you guys think the GT1000s will continue to gain value? The Scramblers surely will not, until they are discontinued at least (assuming)

I am concerned the Scramblers will effect the Sport Classics values. Being that they're used values will likely be considerably cheaper, they are likely more reliable and have a slew of aftermarket accessories on the way.

Thoughts? What do you think is a better buy?

as of the other thread - buy a japanese bike and you will be happy :D

above 2 bikes are not comparable, and worst, they both are Ducatis and no japanese ones ;)

In my experience, buying a bike as an investment is a non-starter unless it is truly historic. And I would never own a bike with upside-down forks with no protection for the slider tubes. That is, if I wanted to actually ride it....

Well, I should clarify; It's mostly for me to ride around. I'm certainly not going to buy a bike like a would a stock.

I was simply speculating the value of either after I get bored and go to sell it.

As much as I like my 'Strada, for around town I would recommend our new KTM Duke 390. It's a hoot to ride, and cheap enough that you won't have to worry about depreciation.

Even has damping in both fork legs...

Nice, never been on a KTM. Have you ridden a DRZ400SM? Those things are a blast too! And can be had for <$4k!

Honda cb 500f is a blast - agile and has a great engine. A used one is maybe $4500.00

Scrambler looks very nice and is about $8000.00 not $11,000.

The ktm 390 sounds like nice idea Definitely get a test ride, singles are funny things.
