Trouble with Panniers

I had to use a flat head screw driver to push the locking pin back in order to remove the panniers. Am I doing something wrong? I followed the manual but they would not come off simply by turning the key and pulling on the handle. Any advice?

Can't help you now, but I will demo this friday and will look the locking latch over good.

Your are the first one with this problem so figure it out and let the rest of us know....

I watched my dealer do it. Turned key and gave pretty hard tug, maybe not directly up but a little aft. I would look at which angle the alignment pins recess into panniers and that should tell you which direction to yank.

Mine seem to be finicky as well. I struggle a bit to get them off with a strong tug in the aft direction as suggested. Maybe it's just a matter of getting the knack of it.

Mine are awkward too, to lift them out i pull on the handle and bang underneath. One pannier is fine the other not so easy. :/

Strong pull

I took suggestions but still had a tough time getting these things off. I pulled hard and aft. I was hesitant to use more and more force but they eventually came off. Not sure if there is a better way yet. Will advise if I find easier way. Have to check out mechanism to see why it is so hesitant to release bags.

Ive also found its a little hard to release the panniers but didnt seem like a big issue, im going to try some chain lube and see if it helps

I wouldnt put anything on it that would attract grit, maybe try some candle wax on it first

I use amsoil heavy duty dry lubricant which doesnt attract dirt. But that candle wax is avery good idea too

Not only are mine tricky to remove but they have already discolored to a purplish hue. Ill continue to use them for now but am hoping for some to make a good hard set in the appropriate red color.

Mine are being replaced because of bad stitching. They are almost impossible to remove without a hard dunt underneath while pulling up.

I have to use my finger and tickle the metal releasing piece on the inside and it comes off nice and easy. Otherwise, my right side case won't come off...

I don't have any issues with mine and they are removed with ease.
The sales manager did tell me though that Ducati only issued instructions on how to correctly fit the key barrel's after they had fitted some already and that is the cause of the difficult to release problem!! that some have.

I suspect that the early supplied bikes with panniers fitted, that are difficult to remove, have had the barrels inserted wrong by the dealer. apparently there is a correct way of installing them.

Similar problem. To remove my left pannier I need to go under the bike and push the mechanism back with a screw driver. I havn't tried any lubricant yet

I think it's more the locking pawls than incorrect key barrel assembly. The first time I pulled the bags on my bike before riding it home, they came right off.

Blunt the points of the locking pawls a bit with a file, testing as you go so you don't destroy it. Clean it and add just a dab of graphite on the inner surface.

...or, just keep making the dealer replace them under warranty. Eventually, Ducati will fix it or go broke.

As for the purple hue, I thought mine had already faded but realized it was just my polarized lenses. When I look under shades, they are still black. My seams are spreading and I have a number of frontal impact holes/tears...but, I still like them.

I had to hit mine with some WD-40 before it would release to come off the bike. Both were stuck after riding serveral days with them attached.
